Dukes, Actually by Erica Ridley Book Summary

A heartwarming romp between a socially awkward duke and the social butterfly who pines for him, from a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author:

The Duke of Azureford isn’t the arrogant, aloof lord his peers perceive him to be. Yes, he’s awkward, but he has a plan to fix it. In order to woo a respectable lady, he must learn how to flirt. The completely inappropriate girl next door would make a perfect instructor, but a terrible duchess. So why can’t he walk away?

Incorrigible hoyden Miss Carole Quincy likes fast carriages, carom billiards, and the beautiful, buttoned-up Duke of Azureford. She’d be delighted to help him out of his shell and into her arms. Who cares if they’re just pretending to flirt? The heady, breath-taking, soul-consuming feeling inside her runaway heart surely can’t be love…

I laughed. I teared. It was so good!. On the rare chance an author brings tears to my eyes, they automatically get 5 stars. Erica Ridley did that as well as making me laugh out loud at the carefree antics of Carole as well as the incredibly awful pick up lines (though I admit to really liking one). The romance was perfect and clean while still managing to keep a nice simmer. The characters were all wonderfully written and I desperately wish I could fall into the pages and find myself in Christmas. Thank you to NetGalley, Erica Ridley, and WebMotion for giving me the chance to read this story and share my honest thoughts and opinions with others.

Dukes Actually. A perfect romance!

Five Golden Rings and Pear Tarts for Teas. The Duke of Azureford is confident and respected in the House of Lords, but in a social setting, he is uncomfortable and shy. More than anything he wants to make friends and find a suitable wife. Carole Quincy is Azureford’s neighbor. She is charming and friendly, outgoing, everything Adam hopes to be. She has been the head of her household since her mother died when she was a young girl. She has a vivid imagination and likes to illustrate her thoughts and ideas in a sketchbook (which she misplaced at Adam’s house at his last attempt at a party). When he comes to his summer cottage in Cressmouth with a plan to gain and practice the social skills he needs to accomplish his goal, he believes Carole might be the one to help him. Will it work? Will it lead to more? Each visit to the village of Cressmouth, the town that honors Christmas year round, is full of fun and romance. Dukes, Actually is no exception. This is a quick, entertaining story with likeable, engaging characters, lots of humor, and a few surprises. Adam and Carole are a great hero and heroine, and there is a delightful cast of secondary characters. I especially liked Judith and Swinton and enjoyed their budding romance. Dukes, Actually is an awesome addition to The Dukes of Christmas series. I recommend this one. You have to read it and find out why Adam sees five golden rings every where he sees Carole. I love Swinton’s answer.

Falling for the Girl Next Door. Yet another sweet and funny story of love and romance in the village of Christmas. A shy and socially awkward Duke and an outgoing spinster, with no pretensions of haut ton (but one who can play a wicked game of billiards) find their HEA together. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Excellent. A great read as usual from Erica

Determined to be happy. Here is another great Christmas read in this series. It can be read as a stand alone, as characters from other books in the series are extras in this one and don’t alter the direction of the story. What we have in this story is a shy, but hard working Duke (Azureford), who meets an open and affectionate lady, Carole. Azureford goes to his summer house in the town of Christmas in order to force himself to overcome his shyness so that he has the courage to look for a wife. His plan is to build a billiards room where he can learn to be comfortable and talk to other people. He also needs to learn how to play billiards. Carole volunteers to help him. Firstly to find her book of sketches which has accidentally found its way into the Duke’s library, and secondly because she can’t help but like him. She likes his dedication to his Parliamentary work, his odd humour and the way he takes her opinions and expertise seriously. She is the one to teach him to play. Azureford starts a list of qualities he is looking for in a wife and adds to it after each meeting with Carole. Their relationship grows and then flounders quite heartbreakingly for the reader. Don’t worry though, there is a very satisfying HEA when both parties stretch their personal comfort zones.

Dukes actually another great read. Erica Ridley has the knack of writing with a free flowing style that’s easy to read, understand and she pulls you into the story effortlessly. I love her books and have added many to my library. Thanks Erica, great work
