En Tácito se encontró el estímulo de la lucha y el odio a la opresión, puestos los ojos en el respeto a la dignidad del individuo y a las leyes, frente a los poderes de la voluntad despótica. Cada época que ha supuesto un avance hacia la libertad humana, ha atraído la atención hacia ese historiador.
