Good title. I really like this book love the story and the end is the best:)

A thrill ride. John Tyler, former Army special ops and private security worker, decides to follow his daughter’s advice and look for a job to keep him busy. As the story progresses he finds the perfect job, determines it comes with some snags, and needs to decide who he really is to be satisfied with his life. Tom Fowler’s The Mechanic is a fun thrill ride worth reading for any thriller reader. In the same world as his C.T. Ferguson books, there are some cross over characters and plenty of new characters to love. I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

The Mechanic. Very exciting thriller with a happy ending!

The Mechanic. Excellent read😊

The Mechanic. This story was well written. I got the feeling of relief that the bad guys lost and the unsung hero is just trying to be as decent as he can. I’m looking forward to reading more by this author.

Outstanding. Fantastic read, I couldn’t put it down. Read in one long sitting. Great characters, a plot that keeps you attentive, and draws you in. Would recommend to anyone who likes action thrillers. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Exciting, edge of your seat action. Great story line with engaging characters. The plot has plenty of twists and turns to keep you engaged, rooting for the good guys and turning the pages to see just what will happen next!

The Mechanic. This story keeps you on your toes - very enjoyable! Thank you, JK

Good read!. Exciting til the end…good mix of characters!

Ignore Paid Reviews. Alright so I’ve bought probably 100 books through apple and this is the first time I’ve ever left a review. That’s how bad this book is. I’m a sucker for dumb action books(Reacher, Davenport) but this was so bad I couldn’t finish it. -The plot is basic and follows every action cliche there is. And not in a self-aware way. -Character actions make no sense. A high level pentagon official is attacked in her home by three goons who want to kill her. She doesn’t call the cops before or after(even though she knows exactly who is behind the attack) because……the book would be over too soon? There are a million times in this book where all I wondered was why nobody calls the cops. -Characters are undeveloped. Multiple character carry the same description and mannerisms. You don’t even get any exposition on who the main henchman is until the finale of the book. -Whole sections of the book don’t need to happen. What was the point of Tyler meeting the big baddie Braxton at the diner? Did we learn anything interesting about the characters? Did it help move the plot forward? Nope. This type of thing happens all throughout the book. -The overall writing is just lazy. The same phrases are used several times and characters make random decisions that defy all logic. If I took a shot every time Tyler decides to spill the beans because the other character “deserves to know” I’d still be in the ICU. -About a third of the book focuses on a character named Jake. His role is pointless and could have been removed without changing a single thing. Braxton gets out of jail and wants revenge. That’s the only inciting incident you need. Alright guys. I realize I’m harsh here but I got roped in by all the “positive” reviews and should’ve paid more attention to how they received free copies. This book is just awful though.

The mechanic. Could not put it down. Action all the way to a ver satisfying ending.

Really good book!. Exciting, suspenseful and excellent character development. You will love this book.

Great read. Could not wait to get to the end of the book. I was looking forward to see what Tyler was going to do to these guys! Enjoyed the book!

Great read. Great character development, believable. Enough humor to override the violence. Exciting story line. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Most definitely will read more stories from Tom. I love his writing style. Never boring.

Wow!. Good book, very good book. I’ll keep it and read it again.

The mechanic. Fast paced thriller a la Jack Reacher style. Fun read that you can’t put down

Action all the way!. This is is the most gripping story I have read in ages.it’s full of well thought out action and a great storyline! Very well worth the time taken reading it!

John Tyler “The stubborn hero and great guy”. John Tyler is one heck of an ex soldier. Stubborn, tenacious and he’s definitely not going to back down when a part of his old life come back to haunt him. Especially when he’s tried so hard to leave it all behind with his venture into a different line of work. His dad and his daughter are all he has left in the world so when the status quo is threatened, all hell let’s loose. This is a great read not for the faint hearted, action packed, really interesting characters and a strong storyline. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m just off to read the authors next book! Five stars says it all!

Move Over Reacher, John Tyler Won’t Ask Again.. What a totally awesome introduction to this new John Tyler series The Mechanic is. John Tyler is a truly fantastic character that I already can’t wait to read more of. Not really from the same mold as Reacher, more like a cross between Reacher and Harry Bosch. So, who is Tyler, as he likes to be called? Ex-special forces soldier, where the similarity to Reacher comes in, and father to grown up daughter Lexi. It’s this relationship that made me think of Bosch. He’s looking for a new line of work after quitting his body-guarding work and when he finds an offer for a classic car mechanic he thinks he’s all set. Well, he finds quite a bit more than just a new job. Tom Fowler has raised his game to new heights with this complex twisting story. I won’t give away any plot spoilers but just know it’s excellent with many different sides to the story all woven perfectly together to create an addictive story. I’ve enjoyed Tom Fowler’s other books but this is already my favourite. Or maybe this is my new favourite because Tyler is my new favourite character. It’s quite a statement to make considering how much I’ve loved Tom Fowler’s other books but it’s really that good. This is great, everyone should give themselves the treat of reading it.

New hero. A hero with two sides to his character. Grit and determination keep him going till the end. The scene has been set for another gripping series.

Great. I found this book a thrilling read. Once you get to a certain point I found I couldn’t put it down.

Predictable genre fiction that does enough to entertain. The author is American: born and raised in Baltimore, still lives in Maryland. His full-time job is computer security, He writes crime genre fiction on the side and has published ?15 titles. The eponymous protagonist is 50: ex-Army Special Forces with PTSD he treats by painting (pictures not houses). He’s also into fixing up “classic” (of the American variety) cars. His wife is in jail for various deeds that will no doubt be revealed in more detail as the series progresses. His 18-year-old daughter, who will soon start college (remotely because of the pandemic presumably), has moved in with him. Before our boy got out of the service, he “took down” his CO, who was crooked in more ways than our hero realised at the time. Turns out the crooked Colonel got sprung from Leavenworth much sooner than expected because he had “friends in high places” and is up to no good again. John Tyler gets a job as a mechanic with a small local garage because the “and son” on the sign has gone AWOL. Wouldn’t you know it, the aforementioned crooked Colonel’s involved. Our boy investigates, wreaks considerable violence and bloodshed, gets some of his own back, but comes out on top, by which I mean slaughters all the bad dudes, in the end. The prose is crisp, the pacing good, which makes the plot holes are less noticeable. Cliches abound. Ditto familiar tropes. Bottom line: Predictable genre fiction that does enough to maintain interest to the end, but did not tempt me to find out what our hero did next.

Winner. John Tyler and Jack Reacher should team up sometime, then look out bad guys.

Enjoyed a lot, easy to read.. I don’t normally read thrillers but enjoyed this as my first will definitely read the next book this author has written.

Clear your schedule before starting this book!. This gripping thriller’s plot is exciting and keeps building until the end, with twists and turns that kept me glued to my iPad. John Tyler and his family have a complicated history and are definitely not your typical family. Just when I thought I had the character or relationship figured out someone would behave in a way I didn’t expect. With so many military or ex-military characters on both the good and evil sides, there were some great clashes, chases, evasive techniques, tracking and subterfuge going on. The criminals really kept taking things to a new low and the reason for it all took a while to work out. Even the victims had more fire than most. I was delighted to see several ex-military characters from the C.T. Ferguson novels make a brief appearance. I really hope we see more of Sara in subsequent novels as she’d make a great romantic interest for John. Terrific start to a new series.

The Mechanic. Good fast action. Entertaining. Pretty well thought out plot. Not too many holes. Believable.

The Mechanic - by Tom Fowler. Meet John Tyler, former army and heavy machinery mechanic. During his time in Afghanistan he completed a mission under orders - a mission assigned by a lying, loathsome colonel. The colonel was tried by the courts stateside and sent to jail. Now the Leo Braxton is out on early recessed and heading a company formed to recover contraband overseas. When a young sergeant, Jake Smith, goes into hiding after outing the colonel’s plan, John uses his training and hatred for LB to save Jake’s life as well as John’s daughter and a government official. I liked the fast pace of the book and the ease of getting to ‘know’ John Tyler. He was no saint, but had his principles. The rest of the characters were woven expertly through the story. While there was no question JT would survive, there was little telegraphing - readers are thoroughly engaged throughout. Well written, well played!
