Good Read!. Thank you Fierce Reads for my finished copy. My 💭: The book has been dubbed as Gossip Girl meets Get Out and it definitely fits the description. This has been one of my most anticipated reads of the summer and it did not disappoint at all. One word of advice while reading this story is to NOT trust ANYONE in this story. You wouldn’t believe how many times I had my heart crushed when twists were revealed. 😩😩 “I learned when I was younger to keep how I really felt buried, deal with feelings later, on my own. I’m good at burying things in deep boxes in my mind. I’m good at being okay most of the time. Until I’m not, and the boxes burst open and I explode.” I related to Devon so much while reading this story. As someone who deals with anxiety issues I understand all to well about burying things deeply in the boxes in my head. “I hate how they have the power to kill my future, kill me. They treat my Black skin like a gun or grenade or a knife that is dangerous and lethal, when really, it’s them. The guys at the top powering everything.” Amen!

It was Okay. Reminded of Get Out but felt a bit far fetched towards the end

WOW. This was my favorite read so far of the year. The entire book was gripping and I couldn’t put it down. I read the whole thing in a day. So many meaningful conversations about race and society. Amazingly written.

absolutely encapsulating. one of the best books i have ever read. the story of aces may seem far fetched, but in a society that lacks any value for black people, a story like this resonates and is closer to reality than many might think. this novel is masterful for a writer who has barely come out of college. so amazed.

My Godddd. This was such a beautifully written book! I read it it two days!

Best Book I’ve Read All Year. This is the best book I’ve read all year. I wish I was exaggerating. The plot twists, the characters, the brutality of high school, the realism of race and sexuality issues; they’re all wonderfully wrapped up into a story written about triumph. For this to be a debut book from a debut author says a LOT about how talented this writing is! Some plot twists you can see coming, but the major ones? For a book I found hard to put down, I had to put it down, walk away, come back, and keep going. Very wonderful read, if you’re thinking about picking it up, you won’t regret it.

MUST READ. All I can say is 10/10!!!! I use to think reading was boring before a friend recommended me this book. This story is FAR from boring and is honestly one of the best books I’ve ever read.
