A Tale of Sorcery... by Chris Colfer Book Summary

The thrilling third book in Chris Colfer's #1 New York Times bestselling A Tale of Magic... series

Brystal Evergreen is running out of time. It’s almost been a year since she made a deal with Death to find and destroy the Immortal in exchange for her life and she still hasn’t found a single clue about who or where the Immortal is. To make matters worse, something dark and malignant has risen from deep within the earth that threatens life as we know it.  To stop this new evil, the fairies and witches must work with all the kingdoms and territories, including the Righteous Brotherhood and their Army of the Dead. But is the threat more familiar than they expected? And why are a secretive group of Sorcerers convinced Xanthous Hayfield is connected to it?

Is this… canon??. So, spoilers ahead, obviously. Does this book retcon some parts of the Land of Stories? Is this book not canon? Is this prequel series set in an alternate universe? It almost feels that way, because everything past A Tale of Witchcraft just sort of doesn’t fit in with The Land of Stories to me. Allow me to explain why. 1. Mother Goose is never described to have goose feathers on her head in tLoS (if I recall correctly). This also applies to her other curse. (Again, I could be forgetting). 2. The Snow Queen is very much alive in tLoS. Did the Sea Witch or someone else revive her? 3. What about the dragons and the Alchemy Institute? Why do dragons become extinct/continue to hide, and why does the Institute never interfere with Ezmia or the French Armee? (that is still a really funny plot point to me and remains one of my favorite parts of the series. But seriously, otherworldly invaders seem like enough to draw out the Alchemists). All of these lead me to believe that something happened- most likely right before Lucy joined Mistress Mara. Maybe Brystal was never cursed? This would prevent the Righteous Brotherhood from taking over- preventing the Alchemy Institute from ever revealing itself- preventing the dragons from ever being known. All of this would fit in with The Land of Stories, as maybe a dragon or two ended up on the main island by mistake, and Brystal slew it- as she is described to have killed many dragons in tLoS. The only problem here is the Immortal. Maybe Brystal could’ve fully focused on stopping her plan with the demons (given she finds out about it), preventing any of that from happening, stopping the whole Xanthous Demon King story. Unfortunately, that would also stop him from meeting Elrik- as he never is said to have done in The Land of Stories. Is there a Land of Stories multiverse? Did I write this at 2 in the morning when I should’ve been sleeping? Did I take that one line from this book describing other dimensions and multiverses too far? Yes. I’m thinking too much into it. Probably. Maybe. Unless…

Beautiful. I absolutely agree with everything. There must be a sequel and it should connect with land of stories better. But otherwise it’s amazing. PLEASE WRITE ANOTHER ONE CHRIS COLFER SO I CAN STAY SANEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also think that ruder is Alex and Connor’s late grandfather because 1. He and brystal develop… significant affections… for each other 2. It would be wise to have a marriage alliance with the literal only place in the world where you can have access to a temple of knowledge and be able to fight with dragons by your side 3. He’s one of the only people that everyone is happy with brystal marrying because the fairy council and her family (except for the dad) just want her to be happy but she herself would marry just for the alliance to protect the world if she had the chance

Really good installment but to much plot holes!!!??!?...,,!,. I thought it was really good aside from the plot holes. This is the third in a series of prequels to the land of stories , so how can the snow queen die if she’s in the land of stories, also the demon king is xanthoas witch they don’t even mention in the land of stories. But other than that the book is super good!

Ummm. Why is there lgbtq tho I’m not saying I’m not ok with it but why is this category listed kids? I’m not very sure it’s appropriate for children But otherwise this book was really good 👍

Good, but why no sequels. Ok I want to start with this is a great book, but there neeeeeds to be a sequel book

😃. So GOOD!! I finished it and I want MORE! I love it so MUCH! 😍😍😁😁 -Gobzella
