Aum Shinrikyo by George Kirby Book Summary
Questa è una storia vera. Ma è talmente incredibile che potrebbe sembrare la sceneggiatura di un film di James Bond 007. A parte lui, i personaggi di un action movie ci sono tutti. A cominciare dal super cattivo: il guru dalla barba fluente e dai lunghi capelli neri, Shoko Asahara, capo di una setta ricca e potente (arrivò a possedere un capitale di un miliardo di dollari) che sogna di diventare imperatore del Giappone e magari conquistare il mondo intero. E poi ci sono i killer spietati e gli scienziati pazzi ma geniali. Un gruppo di fanatici che nel 1995, nella metropolitana di Tokyo, uccisero 13 persone e ne avvelenarono più o meno gravemente altre 6.000 con un gas nervino, il sarin. Fu la loro azione più spettacolare ma non certo l'unica. La storia di Aum e del suo leader è qui raccontata in forma cronologica dall'inizio fino al suo tragico epilogo. Il resto del libro è dedicato a descrivere i seguaci del culto, le sue filiali all'estero e la psicologia del popolo giapponese, e propone infine una spiegazione del perché è nata e si è sviluppata Aum Shinrikyo, la setta assassina.
