Neglected by Cathy Glass Book Summary

Little Jamey, 2½ years old, is placed with experienced foster carer, Cathy Glass, as an emergency.

The police and social services have no choice but to remove two-year-old Jamey from home after his mother leaves him alone all night to go out partying.

When he first arrives with foster carer Cathy Glass, he is scared, hungry and withdrawn, craving the affection he has been denied for so long. He is small for his age and unsteady on his feet – a result of being left for long periods in his cot.

Cathy and her family find Jamey very easy to love, but as he settles in and makes progress, a new threat emerges. Coronavirus and lockdown change everything.

About the author

Cathy has been a foster carer for over 30 years, during which time she has looked after more than 150 children, of all ages and backgrounds. She has three teenage children of her own; one of whom was adopted after a long-term foster placement. The name Cathy Glass is a pseudonym.

Another exceptional memoir that we can all relate to. It was almost strange reading about the Covid-19 pandemic in past tense considering this pandemic. Covid-19 remains highly relevant but at the same time feels like a distant memory. Reliving it again through the memoir of Jamey was surreal. The impact the virus had on foster carers and the social care system was not one I had previously considered. This was a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading. As always.

Another amazing book. Another nice ending to a bad start in life. What I love about all the books are no matter how bad of a life the children had to start with, they leave much better and for a new, happy life.

Brilliant from start to finish can’t wait to read Cathy’s new book. 5⭐️

I expected nothing less!. Amazing read as always, Cathy Glass is my favourite author and I love it when there has been a new release! September seems so far away but I’m already excited for the next release:) Would rate this book 12/10. These stories are all very relatable due to growing up in the system myself.

Brilliantly written again. Although this book mentions the covid pandemic it doesn’t overshadow anything it shows just how much the Fostering system was hit through the pandemic which outsider like me didn’t realise. Very well written yet again, no more of her books to read now as read them all.

Neglected. Another amazing read from Cathy, thank you for all you do. Not all heroes wear capes, but Cathy certainly should be rewarded with an MBE with her service to children.

Neglect. Cathy Glass describes her experiences as a foster carer in detail, but very easy to read. Her books offer interesting, emotional & sometimes shocking insight into the many issues involved in fostering children. She obviously has a natural ability for communicating with children of all ages, particularly those with challenging social & emotional issues. I particularly admire her approach when caring for children with behavioural problems.

My favourite book so far. I really love Cathy glass her writing is like you are one of her family i like the way she takes time to explain things

Good except for the political comments. Another good life story from Cathy Glass. The only disappointment was the occasional inclusion of misguided political comments
