Umbra by Ismail Kadare Book Summary
In 2005 Ismail Kadare a fost recompensat cu primul International Man Booker Prize Dupa ce l-a redactat intr-o forma semicodata intre 1984 si 1986, Kadare a depus manuscrisul romanului Umbra intr-o cutie de valori dintr-o banca pariziana, avand promisiunea editorului ca, in cazul in care va suferi un "accident", romanul va vedea lumina tiparului. Intr-o Albanie terorizata de dictatura, un tanar cineast ratat are privilegiul de a calatori in Occident. La intoarcere le povesteste prietenilor ramasi acasa crampeie din viata din Vest: avioane, cafenele, baruri de noapte, camere de hotel, dineuri la ambasade, serate mondene. Tanarul isi consuma viata la hotarul dintre doua lumi: fiecare calatorie la Paris este echivalenta cu o intrare in taramul celor vii, de care nu se simte legat, dupa cum fiecare intoarecere in tara natala inseamna o recadere in infern. Umbra este povestea unei iubiri imposibile traite la hotarul dintre doua lumi, pentru ca la Paris tanarul cineast o cunoaste pe Silvaine, o actrita frumoasa de care, ciudat, nu se poate indragosti. Motivul se ascunde, poate, in prezentul dureros al tarii sale. Poate dragostea sa-l salveze pe cel lipsit de speranta?
