Jack of All Trades by Kate Pearce Book Summary

When the brash railway contractor Elijah Hepworth and his rowdy crew of navvies arrive in Millcastle the town is divided between those who embrace the possibility of change and those who want things to remain the same. Alice Collins, who has recently come to live at Grafton Hall, knows which side she'd prefer to be on, but Mr. Hepworth obviously has other ideas. When the comfortable, safe existence Alice hoped for is snatched from her grasp, will she accept an offer from a man who never claims to be a gentleman, but who might be what she needed all along?

Loved it!. The first I have read of the authors historical books. I love her another genre and she doesn’t disappoint! This is book 4 in the Millcastle series, but I had no problem getting into the story. Elijah Hepworth is a self made man, a railway contractor who has some support from the Ton and also some resistance from others who doesn’t want change in their town. He meets Alice at one of his partners home and decides he wants her. And he always gets what he wants in his own brash way. Alice Collins is homeless and turns to her half brother for aid, surprisingly he welcomes her even though she is his father’s love child. All Alice wants is to feel safe a secure in her life and always is afraid that she will be turned out. Hoping for a marriage proposal from a friend of the family, has backfired and her friend marries the man she had her heart set on. In comes Mr. Hepworth on the rebound. A story of trust, growth and love. Wonderful to read about the working man….not everyone was Ton. Thank you for the ARC, the book was given to me by the author in return for a honest opinion. All opinions are my own. A enjoyable read.

Jack of All Trades. I have received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntary reviewing it. While this is a part of a series, you can read this as a stand-alone and fully understand and enjoy it. I loved the dual POV format. Getting that glimpse into the character's thoughts really help me the reader to better connect and understand them. It makes them more "humanized" than just a mere character of a book. This was a totally different book for me from this author. I have not read the prior books of this series. I normally read her contemporary "western" romances. This was a refreshing change of pace. I was totally enthralled with the characters and the plot. Most historical romances are about the gentry class. These two were the total opposite of the autocratic, wealthy romance. Elijah Hepworth is a self-made man. He built his fortune the hard way of tough, gritty, hard back-breaking work. Alice Collins is the illegitimate half-sister to Captain Francis Grafton (the male protagonist in the first book of this series.) Alice seeks her half-brother out once her mother passes away and all their worldly possessions are taken away by the debt-collectors. It is in her brother's home that she is finally learning to be loved and accepted. From birth, she hasn't felt the safety of being loved nor needed. That is until she meets Elijah. The highs and lows of this book are ones that give a glimpse into what life and the hardships that were faced by many. I really hated to see this story end. It felt like I was closing the door to friends. This is a very sexy read so just that word of caution.

Loved it. I loved all four books in this series. It was the coming of a new age. Kate Pearce is a wonderful writer no matter what genre she choices to write about. I fell in love with the strong determined, hard working, compassionate men and women in these four books. How the women folk stood by their men through thick and thin. Sometimes mixed in with romance and steamy scenes you also Learn about our history. That’s why these four books are a wonderful read.

Rocking Start and End!. Trigger Warnings: infidelity, child birth difficulties, alcoholism, abandonment, women's rights, illegitimacy, social nonconformity. Well this was my first historical romance, from this author and generally. I think the last time I read a historical novel was Persuasion By Jane Austen hehe. So it's been a while. But I enjoyed this one a lot. Despite my initial frustration with a couple of characters, I did enjoy it so - plus it gave me a lot of pride and prejudice vibes, I'll be honest. And despite the time-period being set in 1839 (when the suffragette movement was about to start/had started), I still enjoyed how strong and courageous the women were, and so determined to make a step into change as well. Ugh, my heart soared (probably heard the exploding sound somewhere by didn't you). The men were the perfect byronic heroes - gosh dang I need to stop imagining them as Mr Darcy but whatever!! They were wonderful except for Ian Grovesdale - blasted kaput Mr Wickham...but nope not bitter about it at all. And everything was so simple, and plotted out well, even the little misgivings the characters had amongst themselves, was solved in such an uncomplicated way -I just delighted in that so much. Overall, I can't share my delight and utter amusement about how wonderful and addictive this novel was - and how peaceful it made me feel in a long time, since having had a rocky start this year. So yeah, I was grateful, appreciative and full of confidence that the next historical romance written by Kate will be even more fantastic and delightful than this one.

Enjoyable read. This is a part of a series but I haven’t read any of the books before this one and had no trouble understanding the plot. I thought the storyline was interesting and well developed. The characters seems to draw you into the pages it’s a little emotional at times which makes it a real page turner. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
