James Rodney Schlesinger, nacido el día 15 de febrero del año 1929 y muerto el día 27 de marzo del año 2014, fue un economista y servidor público estadounidense, mejor conocido por servir como Secretario de Defensa de 1973 a 1975 bajo los presidentes Richard Nixon y Gerald Ford.
Antes de convertirse en Secretario de Defensa, se desempeñó como Presidente de la Comisión de Energía Atómica (AEC) de 1971 a 1973, y como Director de la CIA durante unos meses en 1973.
Se convirtió en el primer Secretario de Energía de Estados Unidos bajo Jimmy Carter en 1977, sirviendo hasta 1979.
