Beatrice Shaw is desperate for a new beginning. Thankful for the chance to start again, she refuses to give up on her new chance and agrees to marry the stranger glaring at her. She knows he may never care for her, and that she isn’t the woman he needs, but she hopes she could be the woman he wants.
Nathanial’s life is chaos. His new wife can’t cook. She doesn’t understand life in a small town. But she fascinates him. When he realizes how much he loves Beatrice, he listens to gossip in town, feeding his fear that his wife will never care for him as he does her. Confronting her, he pushes her away, forcing her to seek refuge in town.
