Incredible. Full of history but so easy to read, like listening to a conversation between two friends. The insight you get is so profoundly personal and universal all at once. I just don't have words eloquent enough to describe this amazing read.

Great Book!. Gives great insight into Afeni's life from childhood to panther party to motherhood/marriages to addiction to recovery to post recovery. Focused on the complex character of Afeni, daughter, student, wife, activist, mother, and mentor. Jasmine Guy does a great job of diving into the deep web of who Afeni was, allowing us (women) to connect with her as all women can relate to each other's struggles. Great read for a first account of Afeni!

Beautiful. I found myself being greedy, wanting more – not wanting the conversations between Ms. Shakur and Jasmine Guy to end. I was in those rooms and on that porch. I laughed when Afeni did, and cried with her when laughter couldn't be found. That's how real this book was. Guy wrote it in a way that made you feel apart of them – made you feel like Afeni held you close as she told you her secrets. The candidness, the pure honesty… a great read for anyone, especially a young woman. Afeni shows you that your struggles/battles are not your end. Thank you.
