The Last Wife of Henry VIII Book Reviews
The Last Wife of Henry VIII by Carolly Erickson Book Summary
Author of The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette
Courageous, attractive, romantic, intelligent, Catherine Parr became the sixth wife of Henry VIII. Her story, as Carolly Erickson re-creates it, is page-turning drama: from the splendors of the Field of the Cloth of Gold to the gory last years of the outsize King Henry, when heads rolled and England trembled, Catherine bestrode her destiny and survived to marry her true love.
Catherine Parr attracted the king's lust and, though much in love with the handsome Thomas Seymour, was thrown into the intrigue-filled snake pit of the royal court. While victims of the king's wrath suffered torture and execution, Catherine persevered—until, at last, she came within the orbit of the royal fury. King Henry toyed with her, first ordering her arrested, then granting her clemency. She managed to evade execution, but she knew that the king had his wandering eye fixed on wife number seven.
She was spared by his death and married the attractive but dangerously unbalanced Seymour. Her triumph was shadowed by rivalry with the young Princess Elizabeth, whose lands and influence the lecherous Seymour coveted. Catherine won the contest, but at great cost.
In The Last Wife of Henry VIII, critically acclaimed author Carolly Erickson brings this dramatic story of survival and redemption to life.

Great for a new reader!. I've just come into enjoying reading. Dialogue is a must for me as I have a hard time staying focused. This book had a great story and was historically insightful. I got into it quick and finished half of it in a day... Considering I have 3 others I started and never finished that says a lot about a book not being too boring ;) and I agree with other reviews it doesn't have a lot of crude raunchy love scenes but enough left for the imagination. Very tactful
Book review. I really like this book it is really good And I believe that Katherine Parr really really loved Henry VIII and I don't think Tom Seymour really loved Katherine Parr because he wanted to marry Elizabeth I because he was power-hungry And he tried to as queen Mary also to marry him but they both refused and later after queen Katherine Parr dad in 1548 He went mad and got in trouble in 1549 and he was executed on London tower for treason And that's my reason deck Katherine Parr Who grew to really love Henry VIII and that's my belief Sincerely David Jay Wilson December 4, 2014
The Last Wife of Henry VIII. Well written. Poor Catherine led a difficult life. Although she was Queen, it was not the happiest time of her life.
About Catherine Parr. I enjoyed this novel. As a lover of all things Tudor, I have read many books on the subject and especially enjoyed getting to know Catherine Parr a little better. No raunchy sex scenes to turn this into a trashy romance, which I appreciate. It's starts a little slow - but it it became a page turner about half way through for me. Worth reading.
