Great read. Although this book is fiction, it does an excellent job of chronicling family trees of African Americans during the era that is covered in this book. I had to read this for a local book club I attended and got hooked on book by Ms. Cooper

A page turner. Honestly, I love all of her books. She's a great author and she never lets me down. Her writing style is impressive and inspiring. This was my second time reading this book and I recommend it to all!

Tear Jerker. Must read for black young adults. The author touched on every human nature, except homosexuality. It was a tough read for two thirds. Thank god for happy endings.

This book brought a tear to my eye.. I love j. California Cooper's slavey theme. This book brought a tear to my eye because it allowed me to better understand the emotional and physical toll of both the Slave and the master. The story displayed characters that exhibited great strength and the eyes of adversity. I would suggest this book to my friends- black or white.
