A Good Read. This short story is an essential prelude to The Queen's Witch and sets the scene perfectly - while being a good story in its own right. You want to know what comes next, so it's a good job The Queen's Witch tales the tale on. Typical Karen Chance - strong characters, exciting plot and a large helping of confusion!

A vampire chooses Gillian to help him in an investigation, and when she helps a weakened old woman to get her gag out, the old witch passes on the leadership powers to Gillian. In the big break out attempt she thinks she's going to die, and makes a deal with the vampire to help each other.

The Gauntlet. Like anything written by Karen Chance this was great. hope that there are more. Can't get enough of this author.
