Just like Larry McMurtry. Michael Mcgarrity has taken me to the same places McMurtry did in his Lonesome Dove series. I have enjoyed all if Mcgarrity's detective novels and now I can look forward to his historical fiction as well. The West is alive in this book.
Convoluted. I'm new to McGarrity but there's an obvious difference between another author's review and a regular bookworm. I've read thousands of books of just about every genre. He's ok. BUT- this one (my first) does NOT inspire me enough to jump to a next (or previous) one. This one I have found superficial and somewhat convoluted. I respect his hard work, though.
True to life. McGarrity tells about life in southern New Mexico like only someone who has lived there can.
HARD COUNTRY. I really truly enjoyed this book/story.....I felt I was right there in it, it swept me away back to a time I always thought I really belonged to. I hardly ever give 4 ⭐️ but this one deserved everyone of them 👍🏻
