Hiking Through by Paul V. Stutzman Book Summary

After Paul Stutzman lost his wife to breast cancer, he sensed a tug on his heart--the call to a challenge, the call to pursue a dream. Paul left his stable career, traveled to Georgia, and took his first steps on the Appalachian Trail. What he learned during the next four and a half months changed his life--and will change readers' lives as well.

In Hiking Through, readers will join Paul on his remarkable 2,176-mile hike through fourteen states in search of peace and a renewed sense of purpose, meeting fascinating and funny people along the way. They'll discover that every choice we make along the path has consequences for the journey and will come away with a new understanding of God's grace and guidance. Nature-lovers, armchair adventurers, and those grieving a loss may not be able to hike the AT themselves, but they can go on this spiritual pilgrimage with a truly humble and sympathetic guide.

Hiking Through. I started this book one afternoon and finished it the next morning...it is that riveting. It is necessary to note that my son and daughter-in-law are now on thru-hike of the AT so this book is near and dear to my heart. My first reaction was to not read it so as not be be more alarmed at the dangers of the trail. But, the book is more about the joy and growth (along with the difficulties) that come with this awesome challenge. The spiritual growth that Apostle Paul experienced touched my heart immensely. I recommended it to my "kids" who are hiking. Read it! You will think about it and yourself for a long time after you close it.

Hiking Through. This is one of those books you don't want to put down.

Hiking Theough. Loved this book and couldn't put it down. I could relate to Apostle Paul's situation of the death of a loved one and it's affect on one's life. I've also hiked portions of the Appalachian Trial so reading of his adventures and meeting of other hikers kept me fixed on the story. It is a great read on life's experiences.

Must read. I have always dreamt of thru hiking the AT. This was one of those books I could not put down. I bought this book 6 months after tragically losing my 15 year old son in an automobile accident and I felt as if the author was living out my story. After reading the authors journey on the AT from loss and mourning, to complete spiritual growth, and the gift of peace and growth through the quiet of nature and the magic on the AT, I have decided I will also thru hike the AT.

Excellent story. What a most excellent story. Much more than a walk along the Appalachian Trail, but a story of finding ones self n the solitude and wonder of the walk. I highly recommend this book. Thanks for sharing your story.

Loved it. I couldn't put this book down. How I would love to be able to quit my job and follow in Paul's path. I was crying along with him as he approached the sign marking the end of the long trail.

Incredible!!. I've read several books on hiking the A.T. And I've loved them all!! This book was by far my favorite!!!!!! I couldn't put it down. Thank you apostle!!!

Loved every page in the book. Paul takes you on a journey with emotional up's and down's. You see why he had to hike and why the journey never stops.

Amazing Book for the Spirit and Hiking the App Trail. I can't put it down...it is a great read for people looking for spiritual growth or people interested in hiking the Appalachian Trail. I happen to be both!

A Very Good Read. If you have any interest in hiking this book will be one you will remember. It is humorous and intelligent. This book is also for those of us who have lost someone profoundly meaningful in our lives. It is also for those of us seeking answers about the deeper things in life and what matters the most. Come with a open mind and heart.

What a Journey!!. Paul Stutzman is the author of this wonderful book. He does a fantastic job of keeping the reader engaged during his 2,200-mile journey through the Application Trail. Paul’s story is an emotional rollercoaster of a man searching for answers after the death of his wife. I can only image the feelings and knowledge he gained on his journey. I defiantly recommend this book for anyone.

Walking Through. Great read.

Outstanding book!. Keep an open mind, you wouldn't want to miss a fantastic story!

Hiking through. This book is awesome and full of nuggets of wisdom.

Meaningful Adventure. Wonderful, honest writing. Could not put the book down. No bad language or sexual content. Excellent!

Awesome book. This was such an amazing book to read! I just loved every bit of it! I recommend this book to anyone!

Inspiring. Read this book with an open mind and heart. If you do, you can't help but be changed. The hiking isn't the point of the book. It's Paul's willingness to share his soul that changes you. You see his faults, fears, strengths and compassion. A true from the heart book.

Hiking Through. Absolutely beautiful book. If you are struggling with things in life, and curious about hiking the AT, this is a must read. I couldn't put it down!

Must read for those missing something..... Thought provoking, funny, tear producing mix of emotions, kind of book. Makes me want to go today and take that first step...

Very interesting. Loved the people and learning about the trail.

A good read. I was interested in this quest. I’m interested in his perspectives. I’d like to give it a go myself. I was hoping for a bit on how to avoid the ticks, the type of clothing worn, and etc. Neverthe less, I am sad to have finished the book. In a way, it is a how to book and in a way it isn’t. I enjoyed this book very much. You should read it.
