He saw his previous books “Beggars of Life.” “Circus Parade,” “Shanty Irish,” and “Shadows of Men” as having a common thread of telling the stories of the outcasts and under dogs that lurked below the surface of  early Twentieth century America culture.  “Blood on the Moon” brings together the stories of orphans, hobos, Irish immigrants, chain makers, whores, magicians and boxers to paint a vivid picture of those who lived outside the straight and narrow.
Jim Tully has largely been forgotten today, but during the 1920s and 1930s he was considered one of America’s best writers, routinely ranked with Hemingway and Fitzgerald as a true American voice.
