This edition of "The Art of War" is the first annotated English translation of the monumental text. First written around 500 BC, "The Art of War" was the most important military doctrine of its time and was considered a masterpiece of strategy and tactics. The author of the work is traditionally considered to be Sun Tzu, a high ranking Chinese general in the ancient world. Divided into 13 chapters, "The Art of War" provides timeless insight and wisdom into several elements of military command and strategy. Sun Tzu favored brief wars with little economic impact. He believed it best to defeat an enemy before it could develop into a true threat. The best practice was to avoid civilian casualties and capture a state without invoking a violent resistance movement. Mobility and positioning of forces is of supreme importance and successful strategy requires quick and decisive decision making. Today, "The Art of War" is no longer limited as a book of military strategy, but is considered to be an essential guide for business, law and success in life.
