The 100 by Kass Morgan Book Summary

The first book in the New York Times bestselling series that inspired the hit CW television show.

No one has set foot on Earth in centuries – until now.

Ever since a devastating nuclear war, humanity has lived on spaceships far above Earth's radioactive surface. Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents -- considered expendable by society -- are being sent on a dangerous mission: to recolonize the planet. It could be their second chance at life...or it could be a suicide mission.

CLARKE was arrested for treason, though she's haunted by the memory of what she really did. WELLS, the chancellor's son, came to Earth for the girl he loves -- but will she ever forgive him? Reckless BELLAMY fought his way onto the transport pod to protect his sister, the other half of the only pair of siblings in the universe. And GLASS managed to escape back onto the ship, only to find that life there is just as dangerous as she feared it would be on Earth.

Confronted with a savage land and haunted by secrets from their pasts, the hundred must fight to survive. They were never meant to be heroes, but they may be mankind's last hope.

Amazing!!!!. Before I knew this was originally a book series, I was addicted to the TV show. But once I found out about the books, I started to read it, and I have to say this is one of my most favorite books I have ever read! Absolutely amazing!

Awesome!. I watched the show first and fell in love with it so I felt like I needed to read the books and so far I’m so happy that I am reading the books. The first book has been a page turner.

Engaging space opera. Incredible journey!

I love it. Though the show is a totally different thing then the books, i agree the books are better and of corse more detailed........and all of this comment was written by a 14 year old who read the book in a da and watched every episode they had on Netflix in two days........guess you can say i got hooked real quick

Good story... but. Loved the story but was very disappointed with how it ended. Would pay $15 to $20 for ENTIRE story, but not per book. Next one coming out is $10 for 300 or so pages??? Sorry, I won't be buying, as much as I'd love to finish it.

A premise, not a story. Do not buy this book, just watch the show. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and can tell you this isn't even a full book, it ends about a quarter of the way through what a normal story arch would look like. It's a good premise and has made for a great basis for the show, but I guarantee you will be disappointed if you pay for this book.

Love it. *Spoilers* I absolutely loved the books and the show. I prefer the books just for the little things which is especially the fact the my otp is the endgame unlike in the show Clarke ends up shooting Bellamy. I’m super excited to reread the books even after so long I’m just in the mood to have the experience and thrill all over again.

Great Read!!!. Loved reading this book and can't wait for the second to come out!!!!!!

Feels incomplete. Wanted to read the book after seeing the show as I usually think books are way better than their tv/movie counterparts. Not so in this case, unfortunately. The plot is weak/nonexistent and the characters are one dimensional. I don’t feel like I read a real fleshed out book, but more like an idea for a book. It also seemed to end very abruptly and awkwardly. I finished the series bc I kept hoping things would develop, but each book was pretty much the same flat line. Had high hopes but just wasn’t enough.

Terrible. This book wasn’t really written that well and felt more like she was describing the events rather than having the delinquents talk about the events or show emotion towards them. If i could, i give this book 0/5 stars. I’m sorry but it’s the truth.

Um, no thanks.. I read this book in the hopes that it would be just as good as the show, but it was severely disappointing for me. Raven was missing, and the characters are one dimensional, driven by romances and their love interests. There are snippets of logical reasoning behind every choice, but the stories these pages tell revolve around love triangles and relationships. There’s no substance to this kind of storytelling. At first, it’s relatable because there is not a single life on earth that has not been touched by love, but pretty soon it becomes more like a soap opera than about survival in a wasteland people used to call home. I was hoping I would get to see more characterization, especially with Clarke, but now it becomes startlingly clear that Jason Rothenberg was not kidding when he said the only thing the show and the book have in common is the setting. I regret ever wasting my time to even read the first sentence.

The 100. I love the show, especially Jasper and Monty. They aren't in the book though so I'm not sure if I want to read it. I mean, yeah Bellarke happens but Jonty isn't even close so I don't know.

Excellent read. I loved the TV series, but the books are powerful in their own way. I love the varying story lines. It keeps you in your toes and reading through the pages!!

AMAZING. AMAZING

The 100 book 1. Great book a lot different from the show but one thing I didn’t understand is the reason Wells got confined. In the beginning it states what he did in a conversation with his father. Then at the end it’s a flashback and it states he did something else to get confined.

The Show is So much better. I read this thinking that it was going to be even better then the show. I was completely wrong. The characters are all push overs. There is no character development what so ever and the time line of the series is boring. The only upside is that Bellamy and Clarke get together.

She Forgot to End It. Seriously! I get that all YA books have to be trilogy's (?) but at least each one has a full arc of storyline. The 100 doesn't end, it just stops. In the middle. No conclusion, no wind down, nothing. It's like she was wring a story and just walked away from it. It had such potential but turned out to be such a waste. You can't even write a spoiler because there are none. I can't believe I spent $10 on this.

Not the same story as the tv show!. I was upset to learn the tv show was based off a book as I much prefer reading the books first; however, the book and the tv series are so different it felt like discovering an entirely different story. I loved how the book included Glass's point of view on the ship and I love how there were different classes on the ship. This was a great read and I definitely recommend it.

First Time Read. I’m not a reader, but I saw the show and HAD to try the books. Let’s just say I bought book 2 and might be a reader now.

Awesome. I thought the book was interesting. I loved it personally and can't wait for the next one to come out.

The show and book are just so different. I enjoyed the book mostly. But after seeing two episodes of the show about the book I can tell the writers added characters and make it so different from the book that it's upsetting. The ending is kind abrupt but I get it.

This book is NOT a waste of time or money- read it!!. All the people who say that the book is disappointing have obviously watched the show first. I would recommend reading the book first. We can probably infer that the book will not be the same as the show for two reasons: 1. You can’t follow the book word for word. 2. If you base a tv show off the book, you have to work with what you have. We don’t live in a perfect world! I don’t care if you have a bachelors degree in creative writing. If you don’t like the book, don’t read it!!!!! I am 13 years old and i am at a college reading level- for me, this is easy. All true book lovers know: you can’t judge a book by its movie/ show. I am sorry for writing such a long review. Some people discourage good pieces of work and it really aggravates me! I have read so may well known series that I know good writing when I read it. If you managed to get to this point, you are clearly an amazingly kind person and I thank you for taking the time to read my painfully long review.💯🌏 ( p.s. do some digging first. Search it up, find out what it’s all about, and figure out weather or not this is within your respective genre. Over 90% of bad reviews are from people who read the book and were disappointed because they didn’t like the science fiction/action/ futuristic type setting/ plot😋)

eh. i started reading this because i love the 100. i read all the books in this series, and it’s interesting to see how these books relate to the show, like all the events that happened in here happened in the 100, just with different characters a lot of the time. i started reading this because i wanted to see bellamy and clarke actually get together, and this book is very cheesy but there is at least that if you want to see that pretty bad.

Not at all impressed. I usually read the books before watching the movie or show but this time I watched the show before not knowing it was a book. I loved the show with it's compelling plot and dynamic characters so I was expecting the book to hold up to these standards. Instead I found a book with no emotion, a slow moving pace, and absolutely no plot. I see why the show had to add all those scenes in to make it interesting. Just watch the show.

Disappointed. I'm coming from a different perspective than I usually am, having seen the show before reading the book. But I've got to say, I'm disappointed. I came to the show through the well-written female characters and the representation of people of color and bisexual representation. It's a great show. Because I loved the show, I decided to go ahead and read the book. Mistake. As soon as I started reading it, something felt off. About 50 pages in, I realized it was the lack of good writing and the abundance of cliché characters and weakly written relationships and character interactions. And the life on the ground underdeveloped. And Clarke Griffin, who in the show is a conflicted character who makes bad decisions as well as good, apparently is based on a weakly written, supposedly altruistic, girl who moons over a terribly written, handsome boy. Usually when I seen screen adaptations of books, I'm underwhelmed by the write washing and removal of lgbt characters and foreign cultures. With this book, it's the opposite.

Good. This book is good. Has a good style. Some people like me, like cliff-hangers at the end of books. Other people do not. Worth the money. I really think you will enjoy this book/series and or then tv series

Love it. I love this book I especially like the main heroine Clarke her character is interesting can't wait for the second book !!

the 100. amazing sooo muvh better than the show

It was alright :). In my opinion, the show is much better. It has more story and more background, plus a wider variety of characters unlike the books. I think the books were pretty great if you’re looking for something quick to read. I read all 4 in 2 days. I was disappointed that characters such as Finn and Raven (from the show) were not apart of the books.

Love the book, scared for the show. When I read the book was being made into a series I had to read this. The concept of the book is great, but I worry that CW's concept is too different from the book. I have to say Wells is my favorite juvenile convict out of the 100 sent back to earth to see if humans can live on earth once again.... As you read you find out from a few of the kids think and feel, along the way you find outburst what caused the earth mission so soon! I wish there second book already! Enjoy!

Interesting premise, but writing falls flat. When reading this, keep in mind that I am a fan coming to the novel from the show, so my expectations are clearly different from that of someone jumping into the novel with no idea how this world works. I was able to quickly read through these books, especially sense I eventually skipped over most chapters involving the character Glass. I was interested in her at first, excited at there being a new character I had never heard of in the show, but her chapters were long, drawn out, and utterly boring. If you're looking for a long and intriguing story, these are certainly not the books to read, ESPECIALLY if you're coming from the show. I missed a lot of beloved characters from the show, such as Monty and Jasper, Lincoln, and Murphy, and I was utterly disappointed that Octavia was only a background character and didn't have chapters dedicated to her point of view. The beginning of the book was interesting, the authors style of writing fitting for it just starting out, however if you're like me and expecting the writing to become more advanced as the story progresses and the characters fall into more drama and danger, you will be disappointed. While the premise is straight up awesome, and insanely intriguing, the style of the authors writing destroyed any value the story had on its own. The way the visuals and surroundings are described reminds me of Lord of The Flies, it conveys a vague yet interesting settling, with plot twists coming out of no where, however rarely did I find myself caring about any of the characters and whether they lived or died. The dialog is very poorly written, often seeming overly dramatic, and it obviously does not match the rest of the writing. While the premise is very interesting, and the authors potential is clearly there(With interesting vocabulary, clear visuals, and clever story telling) the writing lacks all elegancy, as if a twelve year old wrote it, and though it seemed like the author was going for a fast paced novel in which the characters rarely get a break to convey the urgency of their situation, this is clumsily achieved, and seems poorly put together. Honestly, if you haven't watched the show yet, just do that instead of wasting time and money on this poor excuse of a novel.

Nour. No

AMAZING. I love the writing style, the plot, everything. The things that make my stomach twist are my favorite like when Clarke is forced to watch the camp burn with Thalia and when the freaking sky bridge closes (that was not okay by the way). I love love loved it :) I am so excited for the show. The first episode has come on which made me buy the book. The 100 is amazing <3

Show is better. Anyone who has watched the show before reading the book will hate reading it. Characters are missing and you have a hard time reading it because the character analysis is completely different.

The 100. Loved the book even more than the Netflix TV show

The 100. Too much romance not enough sci-fi, because of this the tv series is better than the book series. It’s still an okay book.

Too much romance. I feel like the tv series on Netflix is a lot better than the book because this focuses more on romance and not enough of action and sci-if. There are parts to the book which are totally different from the tv series and as for that I like the Netflix series better, good book but not enough action. Too much romance

Epic. Just finished reading the first chapter and it is epic! I saw reviews saying this book was no good, but don't listen. If you like the main general ideas of the book you'll love it. It is epic!! I can't wait for this to come out as a tv series as well, it'll be interesting to see and I think it's going to be transferred very well from the book to TV. Anyway, definitely read this if you like the sci fi genre or are intrigued with the general storyline.

The 100 IN LOVE. i love this book i recommend it strongly if you like the hunger games. i usually hate reading and if i read it would take me a moth to read a book like this but i liked this book so much i finished it in 3 days i love this book so much and i cant wait till day 21 comes out to see what happens to Glass and Luke and Bellamy and Clark and Wells and his father

Maybe too much romance, not enough sci-fi. A good read, with a wonderful premise, set in an interesting world. However, the scope of the story is bogged down a bit by a focus on the romantic. I had no problem with the romantic plot lines themselves, save for the fact that in such a short book they distract from the world and the overall story, both of which are much more interesting then who kissed who.
