The Job Offer by Eleanor Webb Book Summary

After years in Boston and a year of working for herself as a contract consultant and adjunct professor, unemployed Dr. Anne Conner is ready to return home to work in her field as a marine biochemist and research scientist. With money running low, Anne jumps at the chance to interview for her dream job as a research scientist with the world famous Stanford Enterprises research company.

When she makes the final round of interviews, Anne decides to combine her time in Seattle interviewing with a vacation trip to her family's inn on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands. The last thing she expected was to run into her childhood friend and object of her teenage dreams, Ben Carlson, who is on the island for his sister's wedding. Nor did she plan on the passion that erupts between them. Is their relationship only a vacation romance as they agreed from the beginning or will it turn into something more when Anne moves back to Seattle?

Just as Anne begins to hope for more, the unthinkable is revealed. Ben is none other than her new boss. Worse yet, he thinks that she only used him to get the job.

Excellent Book. I loved this book! Great characters and a very sweet romance. I loved how the characters reconnected after not seeing one another since they were kids. They had such a beautiful connection. A wonderful story!

Beautiful story but.... ...the author "wasted" time describing the scenery. I like story with more dialogue. I found myself skimming thru all those details looking for the real story. I loved the characters and how the story flows.

Couldn't finish. I'm not sure if the story is any good. The prose is absolutely terrible. The language is stilted and very poorly structured. The sentence structure feels similar to "See Spot Run". It is overly descriptive, but not in an interesting poetic way. The descriptions are mundane. Other people seemed to like the story but I couldn't immerse myself because the prose was so awkward. I felt that I was reading the whole time. I never felt like I was in the story.

Great read. Great story line, wish it had lasted a little longer than where it had ended or maybe have a sequel. It does get very detailed so it can be boring at points but worth the read, took me about 10 hours to start and finish it.

The job offer. I absolutely love this book! Great story, hated the end -- I want more! Was happy to hear she's working on a sequel!!!

Boring writing. Could not get deep into this book because the writing style is so overly descriptive. Every movement and action is described in painfully boring detail. I'm sure the author was going for realistic but far overshoots the mark. Snore!!

Terrible. The writing was so awkward and formal. They sounded like robots. Everything was an odd, literal description.

nice. captiveting, original

The Job Offer. Well written. Interested from the very beginning. Some books I'll read the start of the book, know its like all others and just go to the end- this book I read all, it was now with an intelligent female lead. I cannot wait for second book from this author " Going for the Gold".

Page turner!. Enjoyable book!

THE JOB OFFER. Loved it! Thoroughly enjoyed!

Fantastic. Just skip the details in the first 2 chapters and u will fall in love with this book. Just didn't want it to end

Great book. This is a great book. Very detailed and a slow start. Once you get pass the 1st few pages its a page turner!

Job offer. Good read, we’ll written. TKS .. dc

Great read!!. I thought this was a really good book; I did find myself skimming over a lot of details and whole-heartedly agree that there was OVER descriptiveness in the first half of the book, however, I LOVED the second half! I cried when Anne cried and I hurt with her! That is what a great book should do...make you feel!!

Nothing special. This book is for lack of a better word flat...there is no depth. Now I get why it's free.

The Job Offer. Great story if you can get through the horrible writing.

The Job Offer. The book was a good read but I found my self flipping through pages faster than normal trying to get through the non-stop description it only took me 6hrs to read...mid way through the book it picked up and then I found myself wishing the ending was longer. I hope she plans to wright another book maybe about their wedding (with less scenery description). the characters were well thought of and I like the main idea and through to the end.

Great book!!. Loved it... Wish I could find more by her.

Tedious!. I can't read this any more! It has a dictionary description of every moment or movement. "They had a Labrador Retriever" most humans would just say yellow lab. "She was thirsty so she got a Starbucks coffee." Nice brand drop, authentic Seattle - speak, and seriously? What dolt reaches for a latte when they are thirsty, she's suppose to be a DR! And she doesn't mention getting her doctorate? Ever? If I paid 100k for a title, I'd be dropping it EVERYWHERE. "They took off their life vests, required for kayaking." Seriously? Seriously. They JUST got to the smooching bit, but if I have to hear about every moan in this manner, I'd rather eat "Mystery Trixs, now with tacks!"

The job offer. Crap

the Job Offer. Good read ,enjoyed the characters and story .Hope to see More of her stories.

Ugh. If I could, I would give this book zero stars. I could not manage to get past chapter 2. I have never had aspirations to be a writer but I think I could have written something better than this when I was in 5th grade. The writing was so stilted and overly descriptive. This ultimately yielded rampant run-ons, which would be semi-OK if the author decided to use punctuation at all. Just awful. Please don't waste your time.

Nice. I think it was a great book, loved it.

Great story. Loved the story line and kept my attention to the end. Highly recommend!

I think you are waiting your talent on romance novels. I think that the author has potential, not as a romance writer but with the ability to write such detail, that I found tedious for a romance novel, ironically, would be better suited for mystery, science fiction or even thrillers. I strongly suggest you hire a tech writer to review your spelling/grammar before publishing your work The use of the word greet when the actual word should have been great, or having incorrect grammar i.e. him instead of his. I look forward to reading more of your future work.

Pretty good. This was a pretty good book. It keeps the reader interested and has a happy ending.

Wowza!. Such a sweet, sweet, sweet book! Loved it so much! Combined all my favorite plot lines! Such an lovely story, it definitely made my heart melt!

Love it!. Love it!

Story arc was great!. I liked how the story was told and the characters were well developed. The only problem was context of pronouns, which loses the thought while reading. Other than that, I would read more books from this author.

An editor's nightmare.. Missing words. And my favorite awkward sentence was when it transitioned from current tense to "he got home half an hour ago", and then transitioned into the future. My mental red pen ran out of ink.

Ok.... Good story line but poorly executed. Could of had a better ending.

The Job Offer. I'm all for a sappy romance novel now and again, but please edit this copy. Words are misspelled, and much if the language is overdone, sterile and boring.

The Job Offer. This is an awesome read!!

Sweet love story. It was nice reading The Job Offer. It provided a break from the Erotica books such as Fifty and Bared to you. This was truly about a love story. I really enjoyed it. Thanks!

Loved it!. Adorable story - I was so upset when I got to the last page!

No editing?. I know many won't care, but I could not get past the many misspelled words.

Better than expected. After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit skeptical, but was pleasantly surprised to find the storyline to be quite enjoyable. Yes, the grammatical styling could have used a little lightening up at times ( a few didn'ts or don'ts, etc. in place of the did nots and do nots), but catching that early on made it an easy mind trick to allow myself to read what should have been rather than what was actually there (quite a simple task actually for anyone with a creative mind). It is an authors job to come up with a good storyline and put down on paper; I blame grammatical and spelling errors on the editors and publishers ... As for those that complained of the author running on and on in her details of the actions of the characters (such as the author needlessly going so far as to say the character ordered a Starbucks coffee), and the overly detailed description of places (such as describing the flowers or scents along walkways etc.), I found her (the author's) attention to details to bring the characters and places to life ... All in all, this book was a good read; light, entertaining, and worth reading to the end.

Couldn't put it down. Great job!

Very romantic!. Wow what a great story! There was passion, romance, and fire! The only thing I didn't like was that the story was kind of slow to develop and too fast to end! It would have been nice to read about the wedding and allow her to have the baby. Also would have liked to know how the parents felt. It needed a better ending!

The Job Offer. I couldn't put this book down! Absolutely kept me interested from beginning to end. Can't wait for her next book...

Loved it :). I thought this was a pretty good book. I couldn't stop reading it and I finished it in two days. I thought it would be nice if this was made into a movie :)

Editor?. The storyline was predictable and the characters were good. The writing wasn't so great, however. Misspelled words, grammar errors, and the formal descriptions killed me. "He grabbed a condom because they prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases." Um, yeah. We know that.

Great read. Loved the twists and turns, really enjoyed it.

Good read. I have to say, the first 2-3 chapters are very long and boring. Too much detail in my opinion. But I stayed with it, and glad that I did. So don't give up on it. It's the only reason I took a star off it. Maybe a little less descriptive detail about surroundings etc, but a great contemporary romance story.

Excellent read. Can’t believe I was hooked from start to end. Although the story was good, it was beautifully written that will hooked you until you see what will happened next. Attention to details make the story quite long but nevertheless, it was a very good read. Can’t wait to read more from this author. Thank you

Full of romance. A good story, good book, and good romance! Loved the whole name game and the plot was well written, I'm looking fwd to read more books from this author.

Nice story. I really liked this book, there is some unnecessary detail that I found myself skipping. The story is nice though and would recommend it for a lazy Sunday.

Loved It-. Really loved this book! Read it in a day and was very sad when it ended!! Immediately went to search for more books by this author!!! Look forward to hopefully a lot more in future!!! The plot, the romantic bits, and everything in between had me skip household duties and probably a fair bit of work to get it finished!!

Rushed. I was really getting into this book but thought the ending was rushed. It could've been a great book.

The job offer. Unnecessarily long winded. Describing what everyone was wearing on a daily basis? Really? Would be better shortened.

The job offer. I hope the author does a 2nd book after the job offer to finish Ben and Anne's story otherwise a very good read

Delightful but.... Such long winded descriptions that I was ready to tear my hair out ! I certainly have never been to Seattle yet I'm sure I would have grasped the plot if the writer hadn't written about the names of the highways and the exits! The story is good and the characters were good but I was skipping paragraphs and skimming through the pages to get to the actual story !

Proof read...?. Easy to read, I skipped whole chapters of just 'writing', and didnt miss anything story wise...Too much content for a fairly simple plot. Well written in parts but definitely too wordy. Too many grammatical errors. Bit more attention to the plot and less details about non plot related stuff would have made this book much better and easier to read

Meh. I enjoyed the story line itself but the while thing was just too wordy and didn't flow. A lot of unnecessary actions that just made me skip paragraphs at a time.

Inappropriate language use and verbose sentences which oppose characters language.. The moment I saw the use of the word "stoically" in the first chapter, I thought someone had let a thesaurus run wild throughout the pages. The language is too formal and too many big words make up sentences that reach a mile long. By the time you reach the end of a sentence you forgot what it was about, so have to start again. Truthfully, I did not actually read it completely. I skimmed it, reading pages at a time. But I'd rather get lost in a good story that uses exquisite words than lost in the exquisite words of a good story.

Waste of time. Sorry, I know that authors put a lot of effort into their books, but this one was SUCH a waste of my time. There was HEAPS of what I can only call 'author talk' (the author described every feeling/thought/look/weather pattern/change of scenery in such in depth detail)... I actually kept forgetting about the characters - and not in a good way. I would have to reread just to remember what was happening before the monologs started. I ended up skimming pages on end, just because it was all just descriptions. The idea of the story is pretty standard and ok. I'm just expecting a simple read with a few new characters to get to know. Not much to ask for. We all know what's gunna happen - it's all part and parcel to a nice easy read... No problem right! So yes, I did just say that we all know what is gunna happen... But this books took that too a WHOLE NEW LEVEL!!! In-between the pages of what ever description needed endless words sacrificed to its cause... We would have a line (or sometimes ocassionally even more than one - but not by much) of neon flashing lights screaming 'here...this is what's going to happen next'. I hate to say it, cause I know there are heaps of different readers out there with different tastes... But this may be the first time I really truly want to scream 'STOP...GO BACK...DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!! PLEASE!!!'

Waste of time. If you cut out all the unnecessary descriptions the book would be only half as long. Don't recommend.

Too Wordy. I started skipping paragraphs as it was going into excruciating detail and ended stopping reading altogether.

Stilted. I'm wondering if English is a second language to this author. The use of contractions is sadly lacking and makes conversations between the main characters sound ridiculously stilted.

Not that bad. The moral of the book was great, it was all very descriptive. The authors writing was poor and gave non important parts lots of detail. Try it and see if you like it (the ending was really good)

The Job Offer. A little predictable but the two protagonists make it a worthwhile read.

Stupid love. The story was great and suspenseful. Even when there was times when the main characters should be slap and slapped again for pure stupidity but that love for u. Oh and I LOVE the end, priceless!! Parents shouldn't name their kids after them, it's asking for trouble!

The job offer. Too descriptive, a lot of words for a tiny story. Skipped thru half of it

Could've been better. Yes I liked the chemistry between both the main characters, but the authors writing was poor. It was hard to understand which character was speaking at points. Yes this author liked to go into detail about the surroundings but it just felt like it dragged on, get to the point. The beginning was really SLOW! I won't be reading another book from this author there's much better authors out there!

Worst love story eveeeeerrrrr. This book was so boring!!! I found myself reading it without even paying attention to what I was reading! Like alot of the others have said, it pays too much attention to the things that don't matter. I would give this book no stars if possible.

Good Read. This book was a good read but I found that I raced through many parts. But was still a good read and I have recommended it to my friends.

Awesome. The story is in trend and love the characters in it.

Too many unimportant details. Just got halfway throught it. It narrated every little thing that happened to the main character, from finding a parking spot to ordering a latte.

The job offer. I didn't end up finishing the book. Although it might have been an alright read, I thought it was too descriptive about the non important things.

Meh.. The storyline is overly predictable, and the grammar is sometimes poor. The characters are likeable though, which saves the book.
