Night Angel Nemesis by Brent Weeks Book Summary

The incredible return to the New York Times bestselling world of the Night Angel, where master assassin Kylar Stern embarks on a new adventure as the High King Logan Gyre calls on him to save his kingdom and the hope of peace.

"Weeks has been showing other fantasy authors how it's done for over fifteen years." — Peter V. Brett, author of The Desert Prince

"Weeks is a giant of the genre." — Nicholas Eames, author of Kings of the Wyld
After the war that cost him so much, Kylar Stern is broken and alone. He's determined not to kill again, but an impending amnesty will pardon the one murderer he can't let walk free. He promises himself this is the last time. One last hit to tie up the loose ends of his old, lost life.

But Kylar's best — and maybe only — friend, the High King Logan Gyre, needs him. To protect a fragile peace, Logan’s new kingdom, and the king’s twin sons, he needs Kylar to secure a powerful magical artifact that was unearthed during the war.

With rumors that a ka'kari may be found, adversaries both old and new are on the hunt. And if Kylar has learned anything, it’s that ancient magics are better left in the hands of those he can trust.

If he does the job right, he won’t need to kill at all. This isn’t an assassination — it’s a heist.

But some jobs are too hard for an easy conscience, and some enemies are so powerful the only answer lies in the shadows.

"Weeks writes in an inescapably engaging style. Breathlessly high stakes, terrible missteps, and unexpected revelations keep the story humming along at a breakneck pace." — Andrea Stewart, author of The Bone Shard Daughter

An absolute cliffnotes book. Read the first 50 pages. Skip 300 pages of interminable dross with zero character development or plot progression. Read the last 50 pages, but only the first and last sentence of the paragraph. And you will have saved yourself some time and missed absolutely nothing of value.

Wow !. That’s it - WOW ! Have read every other Brent weeks novel. And pretty much every major fantasy fiction writer since J R R Tolkien. Literally hundreds of books. This is masterful. Completely unique in the storytelling approach, on top of what is already a refreshingly different FF world, set of characters, skills, and plots to the FF genre. Good news is (spoiler alert!)…. Brent, you’ve left so many superb leadins to next books - I can see at least 2 follow on series books to this, a set of side spinoff story books, some origins books… if only you could write them as fast as I devour them - at the speed of a black Ka’Kari devouring magic. So, thanks for the amazing experience, and once again… WOW !

Such a disappointment!!!. Not only does Kylar go from being an amazing character with crazy skills to a being such a miserable whining person but the author decide he, Kylar, needs to narrate to us the readers. It’s horrible to see how far he’s fallen because he still can’t get over the death of Elaine so he becomes a miserable crybaby, loses his skills, and is sloppy at best. At times it’s confusing whether he’s talking to us or the kakari. There are huge missing gaps in the story to the point I’ve lost any interest reading past chapter 20. If I didn’t know better, someone else was the actual author of this novel…don’t buy this book!!!

Great but lame. Great book that should be read. Just didn’t care for the ending.

Great follow up. So far I’m really enjoying this book

Just boring and bad. Too slow. Lots of useless descriptions. No character development. In fact it feels like Kylar took huge steps back. He’s a bumbling idiot more than the night angel. Extremely disappointed. Loved the first trilogy.

Weeks does it again. This book is non stop action from the very beginning. It had me on the edge of my seat and constantly brings you up and slams you back down. Eagerly awaiting where we go from here!

Won't sleep.. I work a full time job. I discovered this book was released (having not known it had even been written) and immediately lost all sense. I read this in 3 days. 1200 annnnnd.. 89 Pages? I'm a busy guy so the time I spend reading is time I usually need to spend sleeping. Three days.... Yes, that's absurd. Yes it was worth it. Yes I'd do it again - probably have to, to sort the parts my delirious eyes found fuzzy the first time. I should've been in bed three hours ago even now but I only had... 300 some-odd pages and a review to go. This book grabbed me as suddenly, viciously and as tightly as Hu Gibbet's Talent strengthened hands. Its plot twists scoffed at my dismay with a smirk reminiscent of Durzo's earned arrogance. The weight of the implications of each chapter sat silently goading me to continue reading like Momma K.'s stated questions. If you read the Night Angel Trilogy, strap in for one helluva ride because Weeks delivered. I don't know if I can forgive him for stabbing me with that illusory knife - ME, so loyal I let him without even questioning I was being setup. But.. I guess I can let it slide since it's got a Maa-aaaap!

A+. Another great book!

Another great Weeks read. I read quickly and don't always predict what's coming down the road as some are so good at doing. There are a few great plot turns and a lot of underlying philosophy and psychology in Brent's writing for those who are in the know, and a decent education for those who aren't. Still trying to piece a seeming inconsistency together near the end... did I miss something or is there a plot error?

What the….. Not really sure what happened. For unknown reasons, Kylar became an incompetent fool with juvenile maturity issues about bewbs. Most of the main characters from the previous books are barely involved. The ending makes no sense. It’s been a long time Ive been so disappointed in a book.

I couldn’t tear my eyes away!. The ending is absolutely brutal but everything has to end somehow!

Night angel nemesis. Terrible disappointment

What a disappointment. I really hoped he would use this opportunity to tie loose ends from the original trilogy and give Kylar and ending he deserved. Instead I was taken on a ride of self righteous crap. As a veteran I actually related to Kylar in the beginning. And by the end I’m being lectured by Brent about how terrible of a person I am for reading his book. Taking a story in this direction isn’t old trope, but it certainly isn’t original or as thought provoking as you had hoped. I’m sorry your book success has gotten to your head Brent. You’re no Tolkien, despite how much you wish to be, and this book was a step in the opposite direction

He does it again!. I can’t wait for the next one. This was my favorite Brent Weeks book yet, and that’s saying a LOT

A drag. The first two books of this series are highly derivative to the point of being thin reworkings of conventions and worlds created by Jordan and Sanderson. But I found the characters and relationships entertaining. This book was a chore to get through. With most of the interesting Inter-personal dynamics missing, an inconsistent first person narrative voice, and a thin plot, I found myself skimming through what was supposed to be witty first person narrative that fell flat, flat, flat. I was most engaged during the interludes where the story leaves the first person word vomit diary and provides some fun interactions between Vi and others. Turns out Kylar is the least interesting character in this world. I wish he’d stop talking.
