1. Einleitung Der folgende Text beschäftigt sich mit dem Investiturstreit. In der Einleitung wird der Begriff Investitur näher erläutert. Anschließend wird kurz die Ursache des Konflikts beleuchtet. Es folgen dann Ausführungen zu Konfliktstau und Konfrontation. Im Abschnitt „ Von Canossa nach Solerno“ werden dann die Umstände des berühmten „Gangs nach Canossa“ genannt und der Tod des Papstes im Exil in Solerno geschildert. Im Weiteren wird der Kampf um Italien und das Ende des Investiturstreits mit dem „Wormser Konkordat“ geschildert. Zuerst einmal ist es wichtig zu erklären, was das Wort Investitur eigentlich bedeutet. Es steht für die „Einsetzung von Bischöfen und Äbten in ihr Amt“. Die Geistlichen wurden durch Weltliche in ihr Amt eingesetzt. Zur Investitur benutzten der Kaiser oder König die geistlichen Symbole Ring und Stab. Statt von der Epoche der (gregorianischen) Kirchenreform, die im weiteren Verlauf noch genauer erläutert wird, zu sprechen, verwendet man meist auch einen anderen Terminus: Die 46 Jahre zwischen dem 24. Januar 1076, als König Heinrich IV. und eine große Anzahl der deutschen Bischöfe Papst Gregor VII. den Gehorsam aufkündigten, und dem 23. September 1122, als es zwischen Heinrich V. und den Legaten Calixts II. zum Abschluss des Wormser Konkordats kam, werden in der Regel als das „Zeitalter des Investiturstreits“ bezeichnet. [...]
