Cautiverio feliz, publicado en 1673 por el maestro de campo Francisco Núñez de Pineda y Bascuñán, relata su vida en manos de los mapuche tras ser capturado en la batalla de Las Cangrejeras en 1629. Los manuscritos originales son un fiel retrato de la Guerra de Arauco y de las conflictivas relaciones hispano-mapuche de aquel período colonial. Aunque su autor era un oficial de los ejércitos reales, destaca el alto grado de cultura de los mapuche, la humanidad con que trataban a sus cautivos y lo justo de su férrea resistencia a la invasión de su territorio.Hoy el destacado escritor Pedro Cayuqueo nos presenta esta obra cuyo gran valor es que mantiene incólume los manuscritos originales, adaptando su lenguaje hoy obsoleto y la estructura narrativa que dificultaba su lectura. A través de este nuevo trabajo de Cayuqueo el lector se fascinará al adentrarse en el Wallmapu del siglo XVII en los ojos de un joven militar al servicio del Rey y conocer con lúdicos detalles su organización, costumbres, ritos y también el generoso pecho de su noble nación.
