Mountains Made of Glass by Scarlett St. Clair Book Summary

“Could you love me?” he whispered. The question stole my breath and burned my lungs in the silence that followed.

I wanted to answer, to whisper yes into the space between us, but I was afraid.

All Gesela’s life, her home village of Elk has been cursed. And it isn’t a single curse—it is one after another, each to be broken by a villager, each with devastating consequences. When Elk’s well goes dry, it is Gesela’s turn to save her town by killing the toad that lives at the bottom. Except…the toad is not a toad at all. He is an Elven prince under a curse of his own, and upon his death, his brothers come for Gesela, seeking retribution.

As punishment, the princes banish Gesela to live with their seventh brother, the one they call the beast. Gesela expects to be the prisoner of a hideous monster, but the beast turns out to be exquisitely beautiful, and rather than lock her in a cell, he offers Gesela a deal. If she can guess his true name in seven days, she can go free.

Gesela agrees, but there is a hidden catch—she must speak his name with love in order to free him, too.

But can either of them learn to love in time?

Fun dark fairytale retelling. I absolutely love everything about Mountains Made of Glass! This novella is well written and the insight that Scarlet gives on how this story came to be makes it that much more amazing. What’s not to love?! The characters are amazing! This fairytale retelling is a dark romance that is fun and full of spice.

Laugh, tingle, repeat. Funny, very spicy, and well-architected in the way so many fairytales are folded in. After reading the HadesxPersephone series, I wondered how I could be satisfied with a short, potentially stand-alone story. Happily surprised that my lack of satisfaction comes from the fact that there aren’t more books yet, instead of disappointment that the story needed more. Love the little illustrations as well in the Apple Books edition. They kept the story centered since the fast-acting magical elements left my imagination in a state of whiplash a few times.

Loved it. Amazing, new favorite story

Hooked!. While I’m not fond of e-books, I purchased this one because I LOVE Scarlett’s work (and Apple Books having artwork was a bonus) and I could not put it down! Finished it within the day! Absolutely cannot wait for the day we do end up getting a physical print in the future!

So addicting!. This was my first book to read by this author, and it was so good! I could hardly put it down, and you just feel so satisfied with how it ends. I sincerely hope this is the beginning of a series on all of the brothers. I can’t wait to read the next one!

Amazing book. Absolutely love this book!!!!!!!!

Really great. A modern day take on a fairytale that has the story expanded on to be a novel. A really cute story line. Excellent spice. Overall a fantastic short read. I loved it and will definitely read the rest when they come out!

WOW SO CREATIVE. I loved how creative Scarlett was in this book! It was beautiful and I wish I could explore the Enchanted Forest! I read this in 24 hours because I was so obsessed! So many fun nods to different stories we have all heard. LOVE IT!

Cool 👍. A little different feel from this author but a great sorry. Captivating and unique. Amazing chemistry between the characters I just finished it and want to start over at the beginning.

YES! Read it! What are you waiting for?. Girl keep em’ comin’ 😉😜 what a breath of fresh air this book was. Scarlett always does such a great job at hooking the reader in and finishing you off nice and settled. Well done!

Great Fairytale Retelling. You can see were she picks and choose from various fairytales, and weaves a really sweet and of course spicy story. So glad we will be getting more of these!

Poorly written. Mountains made of glass falls short of expectations, leaving me disillusioned and questioning the trajectory of the author's writing. While the foundations laid in the the Hades and Persephone sagas set a high standard for storytelling, this fairytale retelling falls short. One of the most glaring shortcomings is the lack of character growth. They seem stagnant, their development stunted as the story progresses. It's as though the author prioritized reaching the conclusion over nurturing the evolution of their characters, resulting in a missed opportunity for emotional resonance and connection. Throughout the novel, there's a palpable sense of urgency, as if the author is racing towards the climax without regard for the journey itself. This frenetic pace detracts from the overall enjoyment of the story, leaving readers longing for the immersive experience they once knew. In conclusion, "Mountains Made of Glass”represents a disappointing departure from the captivating storytelling that characterized the Hades and Persephone sagas. While the allure of mythology still lingers, it's overshadowed by the author's inability to deliver a cohesive narrative with compelling character development. As fans eagerly await future works, one can only hope for a return to form that recaptures the magic of past tales.

Loved it but wished there was more. Loved the story! I just wish there had been so much more of it! It felt rushed, and I had so many questions to the lack of detail along the way. Still… the story line was wonderful and the ending.. amazing!!

fairytale aspects were my fav!!!. while i feel like plot wise, this wasn’t the strongest, the fairy tale retelling parts made this so enjoyable, as well as the relationship between gesela & casamir. the one thing that made me truly take this down to three stars was that (spoiler) horrible name reveal imo

Fantastic novella!. I'm a fan of Scarlett and I don't think she could ever write something I didn't love, but this was just...next level. You can really tell just how much FUN she had writing this, and it came through. This is a longer novella, but it still felt too short. I wanted to stay inside this world with these characters forever! The character development was fantasticly done, adding nuance and layers to each character we met, no matter how briefly. The retelling aspect, mixed with Celtic folklore/mythology creatures was really cool and helped deepen the world building. Even in a shorter book, the world building was fantastic and pulled you in from the first line. Highly recommend, and can't wait for the next one!

Ahhhmazing. Instantly captivating story, I read it so fast and it didn’t feel cheesy or rushed. Perfectly told. Can’t wait for more to come from Scarlett

Very Rushed, Characters Difficult to Connect With. I was hoping for more whimsy, but as it turns out this is nothing more than a shallow corset-ripper. The characters are instantly horny. The world building is neglected in the missed details. This chick eats like four pieces of fruit the entire week she’s there and that distracted me a lot. I mean what do fae eat? That would be interesting. Details like that are neglected and could have been shown easily. The main characters switch up VERY quickly and just start going at it. Too often. Like three times in.a row, you don’t need to keep explaining this to me, I was more interested in the picnic and now they’re just doing it again and the picnic is ignored, often. Ending is super rushed given the gratuitous spicy scenes. She stumbles on the answer quite easily. Escapes her captor after that just as easily. I think a sex scene or two could have been dropped to flesh the ending out more and raise the stakes a bit. The end scene in the village was uncalled for and full of questions for me. The Elf Prince is so keen on concealing her nudity before, but suddenly has her ride up naked on horseback for shock value to the village? They keep saying names have power here, so why does the main character give away the Prince’s true name so loudly here? The glass magic was cool, but why was it literally never used prior to this? Why wouldn’t it be the thorn thing? Just took me out of it. Seems like it could have been cut from the book. Had potential. But yeah, corset-ripper. I am all for spicy books but I was expecting SOME substance given the interesting concept.

Love it. Spicy quick read! So exited for the next installments :)

Loved the concept. I loved the concept but I felt like the story moved so fast. I just wish it was longer so it could include more details and more moments from those seven days.

Great book. I loved this vamped up version of beauty and the beast with a Grimm twist. To the author, please write about the remaining brothers. Thanks!
