Όμως αυτό που ακολουθεί είναι ακόμη χειρότερο. Η Τζιλ Ντραγκομίρ, αδερφή της Μορόι βασίλισσας Λίζα Ντραγκομίρ, αντιμετωπίζει έναν θανάσιμο κίνδυνο και τα Μορόι πρέπει να τη φυγαδεύσουν. Προκειμένου να μην ξεσπάσει εμφύλιος πόλεμος, η Σίντνεϊ καλείται να αναλάβει, ως φύλακας και προστάτιδα της Τζιλ, να παραστήσει τη συγκάτοικό της στο πιο απρόβλεπτο μέρος: ένα ιδιωτικό σχολείο, στο Παλμ Σπρινγκς της Καλιφόρνια. Το τελευταίο πράγμα για το οποίο θέλει η Σίντνεϊ να κατηγορηθεί, είναι ότι συμπαθεί τους βρικόλακες. Και τώρα είναι αναγκασμένη να συγκατοικήσει με έναν απ’ αυτούς.
Στην αυλή των Μορόι πιστεύουν ότι η Τζιλ και η Σίντνεϊ θα είναι ασφαλείς, αλλά οι απειλές, οι πειρασμοί και τα απαγορευμένα ειδύλλια παραμονεύουν σε κάθε τους βήμα. Και τη στιγμή ακριβώς που όλα μοιάζουν να κυλάνε ήρεμα και ειρηνικά, η περιπέτεια βυθίζεται σε έναν απρόσμενο κίνδυνο.
