Awesome. Nancy does an awesome job making the characters real. I wanted to reach out and strangle Kris and Noah. The girls are so real. They have put up with so much. I kept forgetting this is fiction.

Read this book immediately. The Code of the Hills is rich with Ozark culture--the good and the bad. The characters in this book are well developed and believable. Elsie is a beautifully written character who embodies a strong woman but also faces insecurities. She is lively and I rooted for her throughout the book. The villains in this book are so well developed that you will end up hating them! The mystery is fantastic and the book is a page turner. Clear your schedule, once you start this book you won't put it down until the last page is turned.

Captivating. I liked the authors second book so much, I looked for others and did not realize I read them out of order. Well written and hard to put down. Highly recommended!

Elsie. The book is so descriptive in the reality of a sinister world! And Elsie is masterful yet very human! Couldn't put the book down! I want to marry Elsie.

Awesome. Elsie Arnold is a top notch prosecutor with a difficult case of child sex abuse. The locale and characters are Ozarks originals. A compelling thriller that barrels its way to a fascinating ending. Looking forward to another novel from Nancy Allen.

Great read!. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Couldn’t put the book down and had it finished in 48 hours. While the case may be sad, the characters keep the book upbeat. You can tell the author has experienced the ins and outs of what she wrote about. She uses great detail to allow the reader to feel as if they are in Barton County, MO. Can’t wait for the second one!

Solid story. I enjoyed reading this book although it has to be said that the ending was very anti climatic for my taste. I enjoyed the main characters story even with her flaws but really what bothered me was the ending..not to mention..spoiler alert: at the end the author never makes a reference to the fact it was a blessing in disguise for the prosecutor's evidence to be accidentally destroyed (unrealistic as it is) when you learn at the end the evidence was planted anyway. I just felt like it was one sentence the author could have thrown In there bc after all that would have ruined her whole case even after a conviction. Not a big deal but the editor also left a few grammatical errors. But not bad for a book I bought for $2.99!

The code of the hills. While at times this story is painful to read, it is never the less, one that needed to be written. Nancy Allen has combined her legal background with a compassionate attitude. The shocking evil that can occur within a family is a reminder to everyone that our children are to be protected and believed.
