昔曹大家《女誡》雲:「女有四行:一曰婦德,二曰婦言,三曰婦容,四曰婦功。」此四者,女人之大節而不可無者也。今開卷為何以班昭《女誡》作引?蓋此書所載雖閨閣瑣事,兒女閑情,然如大家所謂四行者,歷歷有人:不惟金玉其質,亦且冰雪為心。非素日恪遵《女誡》,敬守良箴,何能至此?豈可因事涉杳渺,人有妍媸,一併使之泯滅?故於燈前月夕,長夏餘冬,濡毫戲墨,匯為一編;其賢者彰之,不肖者鄙之;女有為女,婦有為婦;常有為常,變有為變。所敘雖近瑣細,而曲終之奏,要歸於正,淫詞穢語,概所不錄。其中奇奇幻幻,悉由群勞被謫,以發其端,試觀首卷,便知梗概。
