Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines Book Summary

A #1 New York Times bestseller and the first novel in a brand-new series—from bestselling author Abbi Glines—about a small Southern town filled with cute boys in pickup trucks, Friday night football games, and crazy parties that stir up some major drama.

To everyone who knows him, West Ashby has always been that guy: the cocky, popular, way-too-handsome-for-his-own-good football god who led Lawton High to the state championships. But while West may be Big Man on Campus on the outside, on the inside he’s battling the grief that comes with watching his father slowly die of cancer.

Two years ago, Maggie Carleton’s life fell apart when her father murdered her mother. And after she told the police what happened, she stopped speaking and hasn’t spoken since. Even the move to Lawton, Alabama, couldn’t draw Maggie back out. So she stayed quiet, keeping her sorrow and her fractured heart hidden away.

As West’s pain becomes too much to handle, he knows he needs to talk to someone about his father—so in the dark shadows of a post-game party, he opens up to the one girl who he knows won’t tell anyone else.

West expected that talking about his dad would bring some relief, or at least a flood of emotions he couldn’t control. But he never expected the quiet new girl to reply, to reveal a pain even deeper than his own—or for them to form a connection so strong that he couldn’t ever let her go…

Coping with pain and the loss of a parent while in high school. The story was about a multitude of characters but the main characters were West and Maggie. The story dealt with pain and how these characters coped with it. West coped and dealt with his pain by being cruel to others and using sex as a means of distraction. Maggie chose silence to cope with her pain. Maggie moved in with her aunt and uncle her senior year of high school. They lived in a small town where football was the main Friday night event. Maggie's cousin Brady was a football player. All his teammates were his friends whom he spent all his time with. Brady made it clear from the beginning that his cousin Maggie was off-limits to his friends. I struggled with Maggie's character in the beginning for her choice to remain silent. The way she was portrayed by the other characters was shallow. Maggie's character did not give me the darkness and gloom of a character so distraught from her painful memories. Her muteness was a questionable concern given the circumstances. The story was told in dual POV's. The message was heartfelt yet I just struggled with some of the delivery. Brady was a questionable character in the beginning with his behavior and actions towards Maggie. Then the high school students had me angry for their inability to understand Maggie. The girls that West used were vipers. This portrayal saddened me because these girls were used by West and discarded. The story read different from Abbi's other stories. Maybe because they were in high school and the storyline revolved around mundane school activities. This age group was challenging to connect with for me. I'm not a fan of characters having sex in high school. For the very reason West used sex: to cope with pain, to distract from memories, and to use it to hurt others. I did like Abbi's approach at teaching high school kids how to survive the loss of family members at such a young age. Until Friday Nights reminded me of my high school years: watching football games, dating and going to parties. This was not a sports genre story even though West and Brady played football. For the most part, the story revolved around the pain associated with loss and how young characters dealt with the pain.

Abbi Glines has done it again!!. Every time I pick up one of her books I think it can't be better than the last but each each time it is. Her books are such great reads!!

Ahh!! U NEED TO READ!!!. This book BROKE ME! Have tissues nearby and stick through till the end! U might think it’s bad and just stop... but at the end it makes up for it! Make sure to have tissues, punching bag, and ice cream (for afterwards) !! DONT GET ATTACHED! The next book changes perspectives!!!! REEEEEAAAAAAD!!!!!!!

Awesome read. Great book! I read it in 2 days. Can't wait to read the next one.

Until Friday Night. I think this is Abbi Glines best yet!

AMAZING. This book is by far the absolute best book I have ever read in my entire life. Great plot, great character development, and overall amazing. If you are debating purchasing this book, take this as your sign and buy it !

A lot of swearing. Too much swearing. I couldn't even finish the sample because it was too much.

IM CRYING😭😭😭. THIS WAS SUCH AN AMAZING BOOK!!!! But there were scenes when I hated West, but I LUV Maggie and West being together. Who's gonna be my West???????? THERES NOTHING THAT CAN GO WRONG WITH THIS BOOK!!!

Loved it!. Good one!

Until Friday night. This is the best book ever I like literally read this book in a day and anybody who isn't sure I'd they want to read it GRAB IT AND READ IT RIGHT NOW because u will never read a book this good 📖📖📖

Don't read this book.. I can't believe I did it again. I doubted Abbi. I didn't think this book would be be able to beat her other series, but this book captured my heart. West literally broke me in one scene I cried so much I had to put the book down for the night or I wasn't going to stop crying. Which is the first time out of HUNDREDS of books no other one has emotionally affected me like that. My favorite book Abbi has written is The Vincent boys, which may have been the second or third book I read of hers and I've read them all so out of all of them nothing's beat that one but this may have taken the top. I'm so in love with West and Maggie. I cannot wait for the rest of the series.

Until Friday Night Recommendation. This book was beautifully written, and its characters enchanted me with their flaws and their passion. West and Maggie stole my hearts, as they blossomed both individually and together in their relationship. However, I feel at times that the book was a bit rushed; I wanted to hear more of a backstory for both characters. Overall, I recommend.

Amazing!. I absolutely loved it. So hard to put down!!

Until Friday Night. I finished this book in 3 days because I could not stop reading. It was easily one of the best books I've read in a while.

I LOVEEE THIS SERIES. I fell in love with this series it was so interesting I actually bought all of the hardcovers , I failll I love with this book though ,totally my favorite one🥰

ONE OF YOUR BEST BOOKS YET!!!!. I really hope their story gets elaborated on more!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. this is hands down my favorite book. EVER. the raw emotions throughout the book, the way everything is plotted, the character development. everything about this book makes it completely worth the read. I've read it 4 times and will continue to reread it until the next is released!!

Love!. I love this series! I always look forward to reading the next book! This was one was definitely my favorite! ⭐️

Abbi. This was a great last book of the series to rap it up I loved the ending and I couldn’t stop turning the page. This is my favorite romance series and I loved ever page.

Could NOT put it down. I'm not big on reading so when my english teacher told me to find a book for a report I wasn't excited, But I could not be more happy to have found this book. It is AMAZING. I feel in love with the characters and could not put the book down.

Sweet, Healing Love. This is a beautiful story of love that heals!

Abbi. I just guessing its going to be great

Great read!. Great book, didn’t want to put it down!!! This book has likable characters and the story seemed to flow good, I really liked how the author told both sides to the story by flipping between the characters, Can’t wait to read the other two books in this series.

Absolutely Beautiful. I love this book. I have been wanting ro get back to reading for some time now and this book definitely hooked me back on to my love for reading. I cried, laughed, and even hoped for these characters. Definitely going to have to read book number two.

$10.99 for an e-book?!?!. $10.99 for an e-book?!?! That's some steep pricing. I love this author but that's not worth it.

THIS book!!. Wow! I have to be honest a minute and say that this is actually the first book review I've ever left. I should be ashamed to say that bc I LOVE all of Abbi's books. But THIS book...I could not go on until I wrote this for others. This is my favorite book of Abbi's by far. She did a wonderful job unraveling the story behind West and Maggie and allowed me to actually feel their connection. I am especially close to this story bc I too have suffered great loss and she hit all those emotions spot on for me. This book not only helped heal West and Maggie but helped heal a part of me as well! Thank you Abbi for writing this book and somehow knowing that some of us needed this story in our lives. Wonderful author wonderfully written wonderful story!

I love you Abbi. Love all of Abbi's book especially the Rosemary beach series, but this book touched me in a way that different. Incredible touching and loving story. True love is hard to find and she brings it to life beautifully in so may different ways.

Love this. This was a great book. Only question is?... When is the next one ?... Too much was left undone... Did they win STATE and who was the girl who moved back? Guess there is more ?... Lol however I can't wait for next one

Bittersweet✨. Okay okay. Now this book I did not expect it to turn out so good as it did. There were many questions I had when I finished but I don't think an author would just leave you questioning like that unless it was to be continued! So my guess (a very hopeful guess) is that there will be a continuation of this book that will answer my questions! Cause I just can not get enough of Maggie and West!!! Love them both!

Good. Good story but overpriced.

Wow. Once again Abbi kills it AMAZING can't wait for the next one in the series!!!

Best book I've ever read.. I don't read books at all. But my little sister bought me this book for Christmas and I read the whole book in two days because I didn't want to put it down it was that good. I can't wait till the second one comes out.

Friday Night Lights wannabe. This book shamelessly tries to remind us of Friday Night Lights, with the title, font of said title and the image used on the cover. But, this is nothing like the tv show or movie (or book). This is rife with cliches and bad writing.

Great Book. This is such a great book! It shows the struggles of teenagers in a small town so well. You’ll fall in love with all of the characters ❤️.

Pretty disappointing. This book is completely unbelievable. Also, the male characters in it are disgusting. I never remember guys in high school conducting themselves in this manner. The Brady character doesn't fit with the dialogue of his friends. No high school kid speaks like that. Maggie is ridiculous. She acts like a defenseless child yet she's 18? The book drags on and on in many places repeating things that have already been explained as if just trying to make enough pages to sell as an ebook. Don't waste your money.

Loved it.... It's nice to disappear into a great story and yet again I was able to do that..it was emotional, dramatic and intense and I loved it..can't wait for the next to come...

omg i cried soo much. i love love love the book. made me cry.. great ending!

Unfortunately, this was a miss for me. I've read a few other Abbi Gline's books and enjoyed those, but this one was unfortunately a miss for me. Until Friday Night followed her usual MO, but I just could not bring myself to care about the two main characters, Maggie and West. Maggie could have been a pretty great character, but her relationship with West became her only focus and it was all a bit too much. I liked that she called him out later about using her as an emotional crutch/being dependent on her, but I felt like her character just got completely lost in all of the West madness. Speaking of West, his cave man behavior and attitude was just plain terrible. His relationship with Maggie is completely obsessive and he treats her like a possession. All of the posturing and marking his territory was over the top. Maggie couldn't even talk to another guy without West losing his mind and the whole freak out about Maggie wearing Brady's jersey vs. his jersey was just awful. He's her cousin!! Where to begin about the secondary characters? All of the boys in this book have had their way with any girl they've wanted because they're football gods in this small town and none show any remorse for treating girls that way. The girls are also terrible though, and every single one is portrayed as a slut or a threat to Maggie/West. I knew this would be the case since it's like this in most of the author's books, but I was still surprised at how much it was shoved in the reader's face. I really would have liked to see Maggie have at least one friend that was a girl, instead of having her world revolve around West. I tried to find something redeeming in each of the characters, but in the end still came up short. I wanted a swoony (and I'll admit steamy) romance, but what I got was an after school special about obsessive and controlling relationships. I'm still giving the book 2 stars (maybe that's too much??) because I was interested enough to finish it and maybe check out the next book in the series, but I definitely liked her Sea Breeze and Rosemary Beach series better.

Love all of her books. Books aren't cheep I have learned that already but the book is new so the price will go down eventually. But as a writer I understand because the publisher, editor, etc. also have to make money so that's why books are so expensive. Keep up the great work!

My fav book. I sat down and read this in six hours. I cried, I laughed, and my heart was broken. This is by far my favorite book and I could reread it twenty more times. I have tried to find more books in similarity to this and can not. Someone please recommend books like this!

Such a disappointment. I have read several of the authors books and was very disappointed in this story line. The end was lacking in any kind of closure for the characters and the readers. Not even a cliff ending just The End... Sloppy finish.

Amazing. I love to read books like this and this was by far one of my favorites. It was written so well and it appealed to all kinds of emotions. It was so good!!! Great job but I only have one question. When Maggie went to visit her mom’s grave Brady had mentioned to West that her dad had left her a note but the note wasn’t mentioned after that. Did she ever get it?

Until Friday Night. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!

This one was a little flat. I love Abbi Glines to the max, but this is the first book that left me a little disappointed. I wanted to know more about their lives, just more details. She didn't explain very much and it just didn't live up to the hype.

Until Friday Night. Just finished Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines and I was so emotional throughout the entire book. The characters, Maggie & West, were so well written that I felt their heartache along with them.

Until Friday Night. Loved this story. So sad & beautiful. West & Maggie were amazing characters who went through heart-breaking loss but found friendship & love. Would love to read stories about Brady, Nash, Ryker, Gunner & Asa. Especially now that the Seabreeze Series is over.

AMAZING!!!. This was an amazing book. I loved reading every single page. I got hooked and I couldn't set it down. I read it twice in two days and made me cry both times, I would highly recommend this.

💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️. This book is absolutely A-MA-ZING!!!! I think that in the last 24 hours i have at least read it 3 times (skipping some pages of course) I am telling you, this is now one of my all-time favourite books!!! 100% would recommend

Loved it!. Make sure you have Kleenex for the end of this one!

Amazing book. It was amazing I felt the emotions. Wonderfully written I can't wait for the next book.
