Bellamy and the Brute Book Summary

A fresh twist on the classic story of Beauty and the Beast, Bellamy and the Brute proves true love really is blind.

When Bellamy McGuire is offered a summer job babysitting for the wealthy Baldwin family, she's reluctant to accept. After all, everyone in town knows about the mysterious happenings at the mansion on the hill—including the sudden disappearance of the Baldwin's eldest son, Tate. The former football star and golden boy of Wellhollow Springs became a hermit at the age of sixteen, and no one has seen or heard from him since. Rumors abound as to why, with whisperings about a strange illness—one that causes deformity and turned him into a real-life monster. Bellamy wants to dismiss these rumors as gossip, but when she's told that if she takes the job, she must promise to never, ever visit the third floor of the mansion, she begins to wonder if there really is some dark truth hidden there.

Tate's condition may not be the only secret being kept at Baldwin House. There are gaps in the family's financial history that don't add up, and surprising connections with unscrupulous characters. At night there are strange noises, unexplained cold drafts, and the electricity cuts out. And then there are the rose petals on the staircase. The rose petals that no one but Bellamy seems to be able to see. The rose petals that form a trail leading right up to the 3 rd floor, past the portrait of a handsome young man, and down a dark hallway where she promised she would never, ever go…

As Bellamy works to unravel the mysteries of Baldwin House and uncover the truth about Tate, she realizes that she is in way over her head… in more ways than one. Can her bravery and determination help to right the wrongs of the past and free the young man whose story has captured her heart?

Bellamy and the Brute is perfect for fans of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, Cinder by Marissa Meyer, and Beastly by Alex Flinn.

Bellamy and the Brute - Alicia Michaels Book Reviews

  • Great read (Dani.sycamore)

This book was soo good! I was skeptical, afraid it would be either to similar to beauty and the beast or heavy on Stockholm, and it’s not! Really well written, good amount of drama, and little bit love. I could not put it down and read it in one day.
  • Wonderful read! (noblesq10)

This book was truly amazing. Written wonderfully and the story was definitely an enticing twist on an old favorite. Wish I hadn’t read it so I could read it again!
  • Great Ghost/Love Story! (MizzB52)

What a unique combination of ghosts, mystery, and love. I couldn’t put it down and had to read it straight through, and it all came together in the end plus a lead for another story, going to get it right now!
  • Pretty good (hfdchi)

Glad it didn’t go into detail for the sex scene. I don’t want to read that kind of books. I liked the suspense and story line. I got bored with it about %75 of the way through. Did not finish.
  • Good romance (Nubininha)

I really loved the romantic part of the book. I didn't really care for the suspense and the ghosts. But it made the whole story a little more interesting. Beauty and the beast is my favorite Fairy Tale so it is hard to go wrong with it.
  • Couldn't put it down! (becca_WTHECKA)

I was a little skeptical of the Beauty and the Beast theme when I first read the book's synopsis, but once I started reading, I was captured by Tate and Bellamy's story. Murder, thrill, and love kept me intrigued the whole way through, enough so that I read the book in a day. A good read, for sure. Excited to read the sequel!
  • Bellamy and the Brute (Gigisue62)

Good book and hard to put down.
  • A more updated version of beauty and the best (Mel_007)

At the beginning I was a little confused about the crime investigation. I even checked twice the summary of the book. I keep reading fully engaged with the storyline. Romance, action, crime, mystery and ghosts... would definitely recommend.
  • Bellamy and the Brute (Tiggy/Cookie)

Not my usual kind of book to read and first time reading this author. A very good writer because the story kept me engaged. I will say I think this book is more for teens who like ghost stories.
  • Tastefully done (Mrs. BusyB)

Clean, spirited, and fast paced story

  • The Book is Worth Buying (LeelaSummers)

This is overall a very good book. It has a few minor flaws, such as a lack of red herrings, but those flaws don't detract much from the book. Is this my new ultimate favourite book? No. Is it worth purchasing? Yes. Despite getting this book for free, if I had known I would enjoy the book so much, I would have spent the money to purchase it. I will definitely be rereading this novel at some future time. If you're wondering if you should make this purchase--I say go for it.
