The Big Kahuna by Janet Evanovich & Peter Evanovich Book Summary

A stoner, an Instagram model, a Czech oligarch, and a missing unicorn. Nick Fox and Kate O'Hare have their work cut out for them in their weirdest, wildest adventure yet in this New York Times bestseller by Janet and Peter Evanovich.

Straight arrow FBI Agent Kate O'Hare always plays by the rules.  Charming Con Man Nicholas Fox makes them up as he goes along.  She thinks he's nothing but a scoundrel.  He thinks she just needs to lighten up.  They're working together to tackle the out-of-bounds cases ordinary FBI agents can't touch.  And, their relationship?  Well, there hasn't been so much explosive chemistry since Nitro was introduced to Glycerin.

Next on the docket: The mysterious disappearance of the Silicon Valley billionaire, known as the Big Kahuna.  Kate's been assigned to find him but no one seems particularly keen on helping.  His twenty-six year old adult actress wife-turned Instagram model wife and his shady Czech business partner are more interested in gaining control of his company.  For that they need a dead body not a living Kahuna.

The only lead they have is the Kahuna's drop-out son, who's living the dream in Hawaii - if your dream is starting your day with the perfect wave and ending it with a big bowl of weed.  To get close to the Kahuna's son, Kate and Nick go undercover as a married couple in the big wave, bohemian, surfer community of Paia, Maui.  Living a laid back, hippy-dippy lifestyle isn't exactly in Kate's wheelhouse, but the only thing more horrifying is setting up house with Nick Fox, even if he does look pretty gnarly on a longboard.  If they don't catch a break soon, waves aren't the only thing she's going to be shredding (or bedding).

Nothing like the original series. This book takes a bad turn from the others. Their personalities are different, thereā€™s no con, and there are tons of logical errors. It just seemed like lazy writing. Very disappointed because I used to love this series.

Where was the con?!?. This is a fun series but this book definitely fell short. No con, no elaborate plan, no in depth descriptions of exotic destinations, no history. Nick bumbles along, no character development. It reads like every other Plum novel, which is fun but unfortunate for this series. A disappointment considering how long the wait was for this book and the rest of the books in the Evanovich village.

What a let down. Gotta say up until now I have enjoyed anything written by Janet Evanovich. The Big Kahuna is a rare exception. I did not realize Lee Goldberg was not part of the writing team on this book. His presence and voice are sorely missed. The whole fun of these books comes from the weird and wacky crew Nick pulls together and the cons he plans for the bad guys! I love it when Nick and Kate win. I love Kateā€™s father and the ā€œold guys networkā€ he calls in to play a part with whatever the current caper is. I had to make myself continue to read this book and I must admit it was a struggle. I was b.o.r.e.d! The first 3/4 of the book reads like a travel brochure. Not fun at all. I gave 2 stars because there really was some action (finally!) but it didnā€™t come along until the final few chapters. Overall an extremely disappointing installment of the Fox and Oā€™Hare series. Maybe the next one will be better.

So funny. Not at all realistic, but thatā€™s the fun of it!

The Big Kahuna. The book is not a good e tension of the Fox and Oā€™Hare series, the characters have changed and not for the good. I have loved the series since she started it and could hardly wait for this book but what a disappointment. It doesnā€™t feel like the person who wrote it knew Nick at all. Kateā€™s dad Jake, is just someone who wants to kill or harm people, not the man who got involved because he wants to help his daughter or be a better father. Kate is closer to the previous Kate but the relationship she and Nick started in the last two books is gone in this book, itā€™s as if they never had a relationship. So disappointed

The Big Kahuna. Awful. Couldnā€™t wait for it to be over. Loaded with action books/movies cliches and no character development. Seems like a huge step back in Janetā€™s writing. Very disappointing. Gave it one star because that as low as you can go.

Disappointed. Echoing what so many others have said. This book doesnā€™t belong in the Fox and Oā€™Hare series.

Nothing like the rest.... I loved this series until now. How many times is Nick going to give "a crooked grin?" The audience was shorted big time and it was not worth the price of the book. I hope the next one will be up to the standards we have been accustomed to. Please !

So Sad!!!!!. I have been waiting so long for the next book to this series, that I was so excited when it finally came out. If you know this series at all, you know that this is NOT Nick Fox and Kate Oā€™ Hare. Nick Fox is a suave, high class, intelligent, best con man. He is not goofy, comedian, cute guy personality. Kate Oā€™Hare is a tough, cute sexy, ex-Navy Seal, that lives for the FBI. She is torn with working with Nick and his cons for the better good, because secretly she enjoys them, especially Nick. Nick and Kate have been intimate since book 4, ā€œThe Scamā€. That intimacy carries on through out book 5, ā€œThe Pursuitā€. Nick has already admitted that Kate is everything to him and is enamored with her. But in this book itā€™s like those other books didnā€™t even exist. Kateā€™s father Jake does like to blow things up, but his first priority is for Kateā€™s safety and to his country. It also seems that Mrs. J and her son forgot that Nick is on the 10 most wanted FBI list, because Nick would never go to the LA FBI headquarters to talk cases in Jessupā€™s office. Jessup goes to Nick, this set up with Nick and Kate that Jessup is in charge of is more or less illegal. So it needs to be highly confidential. Not going around to talk to all the law enforcements that they can. I miss the team that they have. I miss the talks Kate has with her sister. Cosmo Uno needs to stay in his cubicle. I can write pages of how many things are wrong with this book. At least Kate her Toblerome at the end. This book needs a major rewind, redo, and get back to the Nick Fox and Kate Oā€™Hare that we all love.

Did they not read the earlier books?. I love the Fox and Oā€™Hare series and have looked forward to this book for a long while. Sadly, itā€™s written as though the authors never even read the previous books. The characters are shallow shadows of their former selves who seem like strangers. Previous plot lines that needed to be pushed forward have been totally abandoned in favor of a story that meanders from a lackluster start to a completely boring and predictable finish. Wish I could get my money back, but rest assured I wonā€™t buy another installment of this series until/unless Lee Goldberg returns to write it.

The Big Kauna. I was so sad with this book. I love the Fox and Ohare series and this one just didnā€™t measure up. Itā€™s like the characters lost their luster. The last book ā€œThe Pursuitā€ really showed the chemistry Nick and Kate have and they began to express their ideas of relationship and even Kateā€™s father cared for Nick. But in this book itā€™s like None of their previous shenanigans have ever happened. This book wasnā€™t entertaining until the VERY END! What a BUMMER!!

Big Kahuna. Though Kate Oā€™Hare is great and funny, for those who follow Stephanie Plum, Kate isnā€™t as funny or pathetic. Great international story of intrigue and well worth the read.

Silly. Sheesh, this is a silly story, with inane characters and dialog. I did finish the book, but it was more of a chore that needed finishing. What a waste of time.

The Big Kahuna. I have been a fan of JE for years with my favorite series being the one featuring Stephanie Plum and all its colorful characters. One by one I have dropped her other series until I enjoyed the Fox and Oā€™Hare one - that is, until this latest bomb. The cast of characters are not recognizable as the original ones. These are more like a band of buffoons with the stupid plot and dialogue. Who talks that way? Certainly not the prior group of characters in other stories. Is JE losing her touch or is it because she has turned over the writing to her son? I am an avid reader and usually can finish a novel in 1-3 days but not this one. I have been struggling to read this latest book for over a week and could only finish 11 chapters before I had to call it quits. I never like to give up on a book before I finish, but I canā€™t spend any more time on this one. Sorry Janet, but this is the last Fox and Oā€™Hare book I will buy. I will stay with Stephanie Plum unless you stop being the author and bring in another ā€œco-authorā€.

Thys si the best book i ever read. Wow

The Big Kahuna. Terrible. Ridiculous characters and plot. I stopped reading halfway through. SO enjoyed the previous books, co-written by Lee Goldberg. This reminds me of why I stopped reading the Stephanie Plum series. UGH. Get Lee Goldberg back.

Big Kahauna. Fun, exciting and adventurous!

What?. Wow! Iā€™m not even sure I can finish this book. Not sure if itā€™s because Mr Goldberg isnā€™t one of the authors or what but this book is nothing like the others in this wonderful series. Thereā€™s no depth to the story or the characters. I do not like writing bad reviews but donā€™t waste your money if youā€™re a fan of the series.

Big kahuna. So disappointed! What happened to the characters?! The writing is not as crisp and witty! The relationships are back to where they were in the beginning of the series only without the wit and sexual tension. Either stop the series or get Goldberg back. I wonā€™t read another one from this series. Hope she doesnā€™t do this with her other series!!

Not her best. Just ok. Not nearly as fun and naughty.

Not as fun. I have enjoyed reading the earlier fox and oā€™hare books very much. This book not as much. It is a different pairing of authors. It doesnā€™t seem to pickup where the last book left off. It has new secondary characters. It is disappointing.

What happened?. I loved this series until I read this book! Had to wait FOREVER for this to come out. Soooo very disappointed after the wait! What happened? Totally different than any of the other books in the series and not in a good way! Miss the other characters. GET RID OF THE SON! Peter canā€™t write! Let him start a new series instead of ruining this one! Disappointed doesnā€™t even cover it!!! Actually depressed because it was so bad!

The big flop. I am only 4 chapters in and it is like a 6th grade English class took over and wrote this book. I just donā€™t think I can read any more. I would love to get my money back!

The big snooze. What a disappointment after reading all the other books in the series. No continuity no returning minor characters. Dialogue was terrible, seemed written by a 5th grader. Definitely not by Janet.

Very informative, provides key principles .. Very informative, I liked the summary format as it provides a high level overview of the key principles. Interested in reading the entire book in depth.
