Assassin's Fate Book Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The stunning conclusion to Robin Hobb’s Fitz and the Fool trilogy, which began with Fool’s Assassin and Fool’s Quest

“Every new Robin Hobb novel is a cause for celebration. Along with millions of her other fans, I delight in every visit to the Six Duchies, the Rain Wilds, and the Out Islands, and can’t wait to see where she’ll take me next.”—George R. R. Martin

More than twenty years ago, the first epic fantasy novel featuring FitzChivalry Farseer and his mysterious, often maddening friend the Fool struck like a bolt of brilliant lightning. Now New York Times bestselling author Robin Hobb brings to a momentous close the third trilogy featuring these beloved characters in a novel of unsurpassed artistry that is sure to endure as one of the great masterworks of the genre.

Fitz’s young daughter, Bee, has been kidnapped by the Servants, a secret society whose members not only dream of possible futures but use their prophecies to add to their wealth and influence. Bee plays a crucial part in these dreams—but just what part remains uncertain.

As Bee is dragged by her sadistic captors across half the world, Fitz and the Fool, believing her dead, embark on a mission of revenge that will take them to the distant island where the Servants reside—a place the Fool once called home and later called prison. It was a hell the Fool escaped, maimed and blinded, swearing never to return.

For all his injuries, however, the Fool is not as helpless as he seems. He is a dreamer too, able to shape the future. And though Fitz is no longer the peerless assassin of his youth, he remains a man to be reckoned with—deadly with blades and poison, and adept in Farseer magic. And their goal is simple: to make sure not a single Servant survives their scourge.

PRAISE FOR ROBIN HOBB

“[Hobb’s] prose sparkles, her characters leap off the page.”Tor.com

“Fantastic . . . emotionally rich storytelling.”—Library Journal (starred review)

Fool’s Quest

“A complex tapestry of adventure, betrayal, destiny, and unrelenting peril . . . Hobb’s expertise is evident as always.”Publishers Weekly

“If readers have any doubt that Robin Hobb is one of the finest writers in the fantasy genre, then they haven’t read any of her work.”—SFFWorld

Assassin's Fate - Robin Hobb Reviews

Hobb stamps the tale of Fits Chivalry Farseer with a great book! This was the book I have hoped for from the end of the Assassin trilogy. Bringing all of her books together into this amazing story, and drawing all the many strands from Farseers to Bingtown to the little known isle of Cleries, closing another chapter for all of us fans.

An uphill battle at first but it does materialize into typical Robin Hobb. And what an ending!

Not since I was a child has a story kept me spellbound and feeling as though the lives of the characters were so intimately related to me. I want to go back, and read the entire saga again, to savor the finest detail and commit it all to memory! Robin Hobb is a remarkable story teller in the grand tradition of those minstrels and wanderers who entertain far into the deep of night when one knows they must thrust aside the tale to sleep and yet prop open our eyes to hungrily devour more. I feel the rare satiation of a story complete, and the loss of that completion.

I am writing this after just finishing. There is so much to absorb and digest.....but the one thing I know for certain is that this is complete. Always before, I would wonder what happens now. This story was perfect. I cried, I laughed, I was angry. My questions were answered. Such a great story

More my thoughts than a review.... Joy and tears, laughter and contemplation, regret and closure just make up a little of the maelstrom I feel at the end of this magnificent 16 book epic. To truly feel the depth and breath of this tale of A Bastard, a Fool, and a Wolf you have to read it all. As a young man I started at the beginning. Waiting between books (even snarling when Fitz wasn't the main subject...but who doesn't love dragons) year after year thinking at the end of the trilogies, is this the end? Finally finished I find myself a little wiser, certainly a little older, and definitely better for reading them. Thank you for sharing Fitz, The Fool, and Nighteyes with me. If you like epics this is one you should read.
