Loved it. Let me start off by saying I'm not usually a mystery fan, unless it is coupled with something else, i.e. Romance or Sci-Fi. However with that said I really enjoyed reading this book. It did started a little slow for me but by the end I was loving it. The main character Julie Collins has a loud foul mouth, drinks to much and uses sex has coping mechanisms, it in the end she has so many redeeming qualities that you love her anyway. Their are several main men I see being a big part of the following books. Kevin the best friend, Jimmer the pseudo big bother, and Tony. This story kept me guessing through till the end. I can't wait to read more about Julie's adventures and the sexy men that surround her.

My new favorite PI. Julie Collins drinks too much, smokes too much, makes some bad decisions and has questionable taste in men. She is also tough as hell, has a funny sense of humor and a deep sense of justice. She has known more than her share of pain, loss and suffering and it's definitely left its mark on her and how she views and handles the different relationships in her life. Do I always like her decisions? No, but they are true to her character. She is far from perfect, but I prefer my fictional characters (and my friends too) that way. Perfect is boring and Julie is as far from boring as you can get. Ms. Armstrong does a great job in giving us flawed, yet likeable characters to round out the cast of Blood Ties. I found the plot interesting(I won't rehash it since others have), the resolution believable and realistic. Real life isn't always black or white, right or wrong; something Julie finds out by the end of this book. Blood Ties was the first mystery I had read by Lori Armstrong, and wasn't sure what to expect. I held off on reading it right away, saving it for an upcoming plane trip. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down! I took any small window of opportunity during my trip to read more, even just a couple of pages. I was definitely hooked and purchased the other three books in the series. It is my fervent hope that Ms. Armstrong will be able to continue this series in the future. I, for one, am very interested in seeing where she can take these characters.

What a GREAT Dark Mystery!!. I really enjoyed reading it and loved Julie Collins character. She's tough, and doesn't take any crap, because she had to be due to her life experiences. She makes no excuses for it either, take it or leave it, she doesn't care. It's a well written book that keeps you guessing! Looking forward to moving on to the next book in the series.
