Jean-Claude Heudin propose avec ce roman une adaptation inédite de la pièce de Karel Capek. Les Robots Universels de Rossum(1921) représente la première véritable histoire de robots, bien avant les nouvelles d'Isaac Asimov. Pour la première fois, le terme « robot » y était utilisé. Ils n'y sont pas représentés comme des monstres mécatroniques à la Terminator, mais comme des androïdes semblables aux hubots de la série Real Humans. Le texte, qui conserve les dialogues originaux, montre ainsi l'incroyable modernité de cette histoire qui a profondément influencé notre conception du robot dans l'imaginaire et la science.
