In this radiant, highly anticipated debut, a cast of unforgettable women battle for independence while a maelstrom of change threatens their Jamaican village.
Capturing the distinct rhythms of Jamaican life and dialect, Nicole Dennis- Benn pens a tender hymn to a world hidden among pristine beaches and the wide expanse of turquoise seas. At an opulent resort in Montego Bay, Margot hustles to send her younger sister, Thandi, to school. Taught as a girl to trade her sexuality for survival, Margot is ruthlessly determined to shield Thandi from the same fate. When plans for a new hotel threaten their village, Margot sees not only an opportunity for her own financial independence but also perhaps a chance to admit a shocking secret: her forbidden love for another woman. As they face the impending destruction of their community, each woman—fighting to balance the burdens she shoulders with the freedom she craves—must confront long-hidden scars. From a much-heralded new writer, Here Comes the Sun offers a dramatic glimpse into a vibrant, passionate world most outsiders see simply as paradise.

A must read!. A great book that deals with issues of class, race, sexuality and sensuality with the backdrop of a tropical island. The characters are invested in themselves and each other, and you too, will be become invested in them. Their stories are individually compelling and pull you in further as they become intertwined. Highly recommend!

Amazing. I truly enjoyed this book from beginning to end! Thank you !

Wow wow wow. This book took me on a ride and I was excited to see where it would take me. I would come home and just be so excited to read another page I didn’t want it to end.

Deceiving title. This book is extremely well written. The language is beautiful. The way the story is told is hypnotizing--as the writer revealed nugget after nugget of information, I kept thinking of Sheherzade and the 1001 nights. The subject is dark and heavy, though. It's hard to read at times. For this reason, there are few people I can recommend it to. The title is truly misleading--the sun does never seems to arrive in this book. :(

Here Comes the Sun. A book for our times, that addresses the problems that plague our country; greed, race and the fracturing of the family unit. Although this book took place in Jamaica, and I've never had the pleasure of experiencing its culture, I feel I have a better understanding of its social diversity, very similar to that which we in the United States share. A very well written story, which will stay with me for years to come.
