Dragonmark by Sherrilyn Kenyon Book Summary

Centuries ago, Illarion was betrayed– a dragon made human against his will, then forced to serve humanity as a dragonmount in their army, and to fight for them in barbaric wars, even while he hated everything about them. Enslaved and separated from everyone he knew and from his own dragon brothers, he was forced into exile in a fey realm where he lost the only thing he ever really loved.
Now he has a chance to regain what’s been lost— to have the one thing he covets most. But only if he gives up his brothers and forsakes the oaths he holds most dear. Yet what terrifies him most isn’t the cost his happiness might incur, it’s the fact that there is just enough human in his dragon’s heart that he might actually be willing to pay it and betray everything and everyone– to see the entire world burn in Dragonmark, the next blockbuster Dark-Hunter novel by #1 New York Timesbestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Ok. I LOVE Sherrilyn Kenyon and the Dark Hunter series (and the League), but this book is a little disappointing. The beginning was very good. While I know she had to connect this to the other books, way to much of the middle is a repeat of those books. And the end went to quickly. I feel that a full priced book was a bit of a rip off. But I still look forward to new stories!

Recommended. Illarion was locked in another realm for centuries with nothing to do but fight the ones who had taken everything from him. He was rescued in the book Son of No One. He has hated humanity since he was a young dragon who was attacked and held against his will, until he meets Edilyn. Edilyn has no hope of ever escaping the drudgery of her life. She wants nothing to do with dragons, but things with Illarion are different. Will they be able to get past their differences to forge a future together? I enjoyed this book but I wish it would have had more of their lives in the present.

Plagiarism??. Is it plagiarism when you copy your own work? One half of this book was copy paste from the previous 2 books. I LOVE the DH books, but this has left a sour taste.

Dragonmark. My Lady Sherrilyn NEVER disappoints! Once again, she has surpassed herself in romance, adventure, suspense and mystery. Her talent for demonstrations in the purity, strength, courage, friendship, loyalty and magic of true love of family and friends are an awesome power indeed! For me, her beautiful stories have continuously renewed my faith and belief that anything is possible.....Heroes and Heroines must exist for the story never ends. Another is just beyond the bend. In my darkest, most solitary, desperate hours when my heart aches and my soul cries out in the emptiness of abandonment and love betrayed, when I have stood upon the cold, stony cliff's edge of despair.....this wonderful 'Teller of Tales' has taken my hand and bestowed upon me the greatest of gifts.......Hope.....

Waste of money. I just paid $14.99 + tax for a book that basically just cut and pasted from her previous books. There's no character development for the two protagonists. I want my money back since I could have just reread the other books.

Love it!. As always Sherrilyn Kenyon hits it right out of the park!!!

Wait for it to come down in price.. I'm usually a huge fan but this book felt phoned in. She added huge chunks of previous books to this one. I was skipping chapters bc I had already read them. It was like she had a deadline and just threw in stuff to meet it. The parts that she took time for where great. I was very sad about this book especially because I paid 14.99 for a book that I had already read in previous stories.

Blatantly copied and pasted. I love most of this series, but this story copied and pasted from two of her previous works. I understand that when you have intersecting timelines there is going to be some overlap, but at times I forgot which characters story I was supposed to be in. The first part was good, the middle part was blatantly repeated from previous works, and the last eighth of the book or so was decent. I found myself skipping a lot of Cade and Max’s stories because I had read those books. Not worth the full price in my opinion when we get less than half a book in new content. Also side question not directly related to this book, But why in the world are new releases of e books 15 bucks?? It’s ridiculous to pay new hardcover price for something that if you wait a few months (which I do) for it to come down to a paperback price. I’d love to preorder books but there is no way I’m paying 15 bucks for a book that I don’t even have a physical copy of.

Normally a fan of Kenyon's work. This book borrowed heavily from her past two books (in many cases lifting whole passages from them). The action was rushed, especially the ending. The first third of the book was its only redeeming quality. Very disappointed.

Nothing interesting. It is mostly Illarions view of what everything has happened. The only unique part of the book is early beginning and then it all goes back to what has already happened. Boring.

Copy and pasting...Really???. Okay, I want to start out by saying I love this series. She’s an amazing writer and her characters are normally so well developed. But with this book she got extremely lazy. She literally copied and pasted CHAPTERS from Cadegan and Maxis’ books. She didn’t even the change the wording to Illarion’s point of view. So basically we got maybe a little more than 200 pages of Illarion and Edilyn’s story. 180 of those pages were in the past, too. Which brings me to another point... Why have so many of these recent books had so much backstory? I get it. We need some. But I really want to focus on the here and now. At least with Maxis and Sera, the main story lines were in the present. It’s boring to read about things you basically already know from other books. Honestly 80 pages would’ve sufficed for the past story here, if even that. I’m so upset with this book. I love Illarion’s character and I just feel so jipped.

Disappointing. Save your money and don't buy this book. I was a big fan of her writing but this book was bad. The middle part was just cut and pasted from Son of No One and the ending was from a previous book.

Can You Say Redundant and Cheaply Done?. It is rare I leave reviews and even rarer I leave bad ones. This over priced novelette is a vast disappointment an deserves a poor rating. As a hobbyist writer for myself and friends, I am well aware how difficult it can be to create good stories, especially long term stories such as the Dark Hunter series. As a professional author, using a majority of a prior book to complete the next book in a series makes one question the professionalism of Ms. Kenyon. It's fine to use repeat bits to help new readers to a series but a vast majority? As an avid reader and purchaser of many many books of many authors and many genres, I have enjoyed Ms. Kenyon's Dark Hunter series up until now. While Dragonmark started out fairly well, Ms. Kenyon's solution to flush out the requisite number of pages, for her publisher no doubt, using a 100 pages or more fairly verbatim of her prior novel as filler to complete this story is shameful. Or, should I say deceitful to her paying fan base customers. This overpriced book should be dumped to the $.99 bargain or novelette bin, rather than premium price paperback or e-book. Barring that, it should be re-written with fresh content to complete the story. I certainly hope the 3rd Dragon book, I purchased, at an even more expensive price when I purchased Dragonmark, is written much better than this was.

Family. Another excellent book by Sherrilyn Kenyon! We have a well written story which ties in a lot of the Dark Hunters. The action is awesome and the tragedy is heartbreaking. Yes, you have family, friends fighting a common foe but you have twists to the story which makes it hard to put down! I will say the ending is a surprise and true live wins again!

Old Plots. Though I enjoyed Mrs. Kenyon's writing, I couldn't help but feel that this novel would have been better suited as a short story. I found it laborious to re-read excepts from previous books; all the while waiting for Illarion and Edilyn's story to come together.

Nail biting. Best so far loved it

What did I even just read??. Disjointed and rushed. This is the first book I've read from this author, and was very disappointed. The base of the story started out alright, but wove in seemingly random stories that were sloppy and so sudden I tripped over them. I picked the book up in the airport, trusting that a top seller would be a good quick read for my flight. I'm sorry to say this author hasn't gained a new reader for her other works.

I'm normally a huge fan. I really wanted to love this book and have been breathlessly awaiting its launch. I own almost every other book she's written, but I have to admit that I wasn't thrilled with this one. The beginning started out promising, but huge chunks in the middle seemed like, word for word, it was cut and pasted from Dragonbane and Son of No One. The conclusion seemed rushed and left me feeling like I wasted $14.99. Bummer :(

Lame. I've waited to actually read the heros story Yet instead am rereading almost word for word two different books. A few chapters in the beginning and end are the only real story here. Not her best.

Not worth $ paid. I feel ripped off of my money after reading a book which is 80% material from previous books and only 20% new material. Not worth paying full price.

Not her best. The first half of the book seemed to be written by someone else, still not sure about the middle of the book and what it had to do with the storyline, and the last part was mediocre Kenyon at best. I'm a big fan and have read all her books more than once, but the last few offerings weren't very good and I won't continue to pay premium prices for shoddy work.

The opposite of a sandwich. A good beginning and end. The middle was however an insult to Sherrilyn's fans. She or whoever she paid to write the middle, was nothing but a recap of other books. Very disappointed. Would have rated it one star if not for the beginning and the end.

Disappointed and disgusted. If it was possible to give it zero stars or a negative amount of stars I would. I am a HUGE fan of Sherrilyn's work. I have read the entire dark hunter series. I love all the characters. Werehunters, gods, demons, dragons, etc. I look forward to a new book from her every year and was so excited to pick up where Dragonbane left off! But unfortunately this one did not do that until the last maybe 150 pages. 75% of This is copied and pasted from Son of no one and Dragonbane. Except for a few hundred pages in the beginning which explain how Illarion met his woman and the last 150 (maybe 200) pages pick up where Dragonbane left off and in those measly 200 pages she tells the whole story of how Illarion and Eddilyn are reunited and she finishes up the story it was EXTREMELY rushed. I didn't even feel like I was reading a novel. Maybe a short story or a Novella with a the majority of chapters being from books I've already READ AND PURCHASED! I am so disappointed this was a complete waste of $15.00 which is what I paid for the eBook. I'm just so disappointed and disgusted (hence the title of the review) that she would take advantage of her readers this way. I paid for a 1099 page book 700+ pages of which I had already read. It seemed extremely thrown together, hastily concluded, and all around lazy. As a huge fan I can honestly say I've never been so disappointed or felt so ripped off by a book or series not to mention let down by someone who I have always considered one of my favorite authors. Wait till it goes down in price is my opinion or you can pick up a used paperback on eBay or at a used bookstore. She should feel awful. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

HATE TO HAVE TO SAY THIS. FEELS LIKE HERESY BUT.... For once, I was disappointed by a Kenyon book. The parts of it that weren't almost directly copied and pasted from previous books were as awesome as I'd expected. Sadly, that only seemed like 1/3rd of the whole. In the past, there've been parts of the new story that were directly from previous books, but that didn't matter because they were substantive with/without those scenes and the perspectives were swapped and details added or retracted to suit the new story. With this one however, a book this short to begin with, the new material just wasn't all that substantive to be a full novel on its own. I'd have much preferred if the relevant material from previous books had been at least swapped up to be from Illarion's perspective, or if they'd been briefly touched on in a novella, or even if they'd just combined this story with Max's story. Summation, love Kenyon always! Loved the new parts of the story and the storyline itself. Just didn't feel the depth in this one. Also feels like with each new book, everything is more rushed and is condensed to the point of a cliff's notes version.

A waste of money... This is the book that truly make me no longer want to purchase any more Dark Hunter Novel. I loved the beginning than it was a complete mess in the middle and the end was a serious waste of time. Where is the true story and flow that made the Dark Hunter Series so unique?? I want a refund…this was a total waste
