Omg!!!!. Omg this book was AMAZING. I just started reading it today and I couldn't put my tablet down. I ended up finishing it in less than 5 hours. I highly recommend this book!

breathtaking. it’s absolutely amazing

Wonderful Read. So happy I read this book. Told such a great story of self acceptance and courage. All the characters were relatable in some way or another. I could go on and on about spoiler talk but read for yourself and experience the great read that is “if I was your girl”!

Identifying. As a trans woman myself and growing up in the south, I can relate to some of the hardships and obstacles Amanda had to go through in this book. But I do like the fact that in your notes you take the time to explain that no everyone’s circumstances are the same and not everyone deals with the same challenges. I do find a lot of truth in the book that I feel like a lot of trans youth will be able to identify with and I personally would love for this story to continue through younger adulthood. Because I think it would be amazing to hear what situations some of us are faced with after high school and early in to our professional adult lives.

Ending. The ending was absolutely terrible!!!! I could not put this book down. I read it in a matter of days. I am thoroughly disappointed 😞😞😞😞😩

Awesome and inspiring. This story has touched me. It has inspired me to be me, regardless of what people think of me and what I should be doing with my life.

I wanted to like this. The writing is very clunky, I couldn’t keep up with who was who and the characters were on the shallow side. I love trans centered stories but this wasn’t the best.

Happy I re-found this in my library. I actually really enjoyed this book, I only read it while I was on planes (pre-COVID) and it literally kept me so occupied the trips just passed by in the blink of an eye. I found myself looking forward to the times I’d be able to pick it up again and finish the story- which was pretty satisfying beginning to end.

Hooked. I was hooked into this book from beginning to end. Wish it never ended! Loved loved loved this story. Thank you for the entertainment and lessons behind the story. You never know what someone goes through and it's nice to learn but be entertainment at the same time from a novel.

Great book. Really gives you a good perspective on a lifestyle I'm sure a lot of transgender/gay/bi people go through and has really helped me understand that everyone is beautiful in there own way. Great read and even better story!

I’m just a girl living with the wrong body parts. A boy locked imprisoned in a body that felt wrong. He experimented with different ways to make his body conform to the way he felt, yet nothing felt as right as letting go of the boy who held him back from his true self. I loved the different viewpoints by the parents. Both parents wanted to help in different ways, yet having no prior experience or knowledge on how to help left them fumbling through mistakes. This story didn’t go into the details regarding the actual surgery process. Rather it focused on the aftermath of this change and how her life changed in both good and bad ways. Much to consider when taking this step. I thought it was a smart place to tell the story from. Enough was stated about the stages prior to transformation to help the reader understand why this was the essential step needed in his life. Meredith touch upon all aspects of being a girl. I’m amazed how easily my mind accepted Amanda. ...”no possible barrier to understanding Amanda as a teenage girl”. Meredith succeeded. I was happily convinced that Amanda transformed into the girl she wanted to become. I loved the mother daughter moments. Meredith giving words of understanding and encouragement made me happy. I’m extremely curious about transgender people so this story hit it mark. Meredith answered all the questions that plagued my mind. She wrote a thought provoking story with breathtaking beauty highlighting on building a life after transformation. Meredith chose senior year for Amanda’s transformation testing out the change with new friends, new territory, and new outlook. It was fitting to test the waters in this pivotal year before heading off to college.

Heart wrenching and Beautiful. I have several trans friends—not just online but also "in real life"—so I have somewhat of an idea of what it's like to be a trans person. Only somewhat, though, because I can never know, not even after reading this book. Which everyone needs to read, because if everyone could have somewhat of an idea of how terrifying and soul-wrenching it is to be trapped in the wrong body, maybe this world would be a safer place for trans people. I think this book is a huge step toward a better world, if only because it shows that trans people are PEOPLE, with hopes and dreams and fears just like everyone else. IF I WAS YOUR GIRL is poignant and raw. It made me sob several times. I don't really know what else to say other than I'm so glad Russo is here to write such a beautiful book. Too many trans lives are lost, their voices forever gone. I hope we see many more books like this.

Amazing book. Hi, I just wanted to say that this is a book that was hard to put down, it kept me hooked and I absolutely adored it. This book is bold and brave, it shows people a small glimpse of trans women and some of the hurdles that they face. At one moment you are about to cry and the next you are smiling with joy. I highly recommend this amazing book.

Interesting read. It kept my attention because it was so heartfelt. In truth, it is not well-written. But it evokes emotion--I felt empathetic to the main character.

Another great book!. I really like this book. It took a little getting used to at the beginning but then it was wonderful!

Not extraordinary, but I'd read it again.. In truth, this book is far from extraordinary, much less realistic, as the author acknowledges. That said, it has a certain allure that stops you from abandoning it. Some parts are nice, heartfelt; others are completely predictable. Nevertheless, it provides an interesting insight in the fictional life of a trans girl and her struggles through life. I'd read it again, if only out of boredom.
