The Orgin Story of Colton. With honesty, grit, and pure emotion, Jasinda Wilder brings us into the life of Colt once again. The author’s ability to weave a story with the reality of violence, some humor, romance, and heartbreak, allows the reader fall in love with her characters as flawed as they are. Make no mistake, this origin story is one that fans of The Falling Series will devour. This is the story of Colton. It is the story before the story that we all have known, loved, quoted, and stayed up all night reading. It is his beginning. His tale starts like this… Colt is forced to leave his home in Michigan after his father throws him out. With no specific place to go, he decides to head to New York City. Alone and on the streets, Colt falls into a world of fighting for money which leads to a “job” as an enforcer of sorts for a local gang. He is good at what he does, but he wants more. When Colt falls for India, he sees a way out. They talk about realizing their dreams and making a life outside of the violence. India was Colt’s first love. She and a particularly feisty old woman, Tilda, will show him that with all the pain and sadness, there can be moments of light. As with all of Jasinda’s books, I have to comment on the eloquence of her writing. There is something so engrossing about one of her books. The way that she gives us her characters to embrace, comprehend, and love allows us to see their fictional souls. The world she created in The Falling Series is one that all of her fans have come to cherish. But with the good always comes the bad. Calm yourselves…I can see you all freaking out at your computer screens. I don’t mean that there is anything bad about this book. What I mean that, in this book, there is also a hardness that comes to the page. The reality of living on the street is not bunny rabbits and lollipops. There is anger, fighting, and death. All the good emotions come at a cost. For every pages that will make you smile, there is one that will make you tear up. I am not a crier when I read books, but there were a few moments that I had to wipe away the tears. If you love The Falling Series, as I do, this book will give you understanding for what Colt lived through in the time before he met Nell (Falling Into You). If you haven’t read the series, this book will be the first that you should read. But I warn you…if you read this book, be prepared to have the overwhelming urge to buy all the other books in the series and binge read them. There are a lot of sleepless nights ahead of you.

Surprisingly awesome!. I got this book in a promo from BookBub and started reading it without knowing it was the 5th book in a series! I was hooked immediately, right on the very first page, so I didn't bother reading the blurp first. When I was almost at chapter 4 I read the blurb of the book on Goodreads and then I was like, WTH?? How could I have missed the first 4 books? And since I ALWAYS like to read the books in a series in the right order (even if they're like standalones), I was... Unhappy (to put it gently) when I found that out. But then I read the first reviews saying that this book is a prequel and tells the story that happened before the first book. That encouraged me to keep reading and I loved it. I didn't particularly like all the graphic details on the fighting scenes (it turned boring after a while) but I liked the story so much that I'm giving it 5 stars despite of that. I loved Colton's journey, his relationship with India, his friendship with Tilda, all so sweet and awesome! Of course, I'm going to read the first 4 books now, even though the author's note at the end of the book was like a "You know the rest of the story, so goodbye", LOL! To me it should have been more like "welcome to a hell of a ride", which I can't wait to get in! ;)

A beautiful story. This series changed my life... I couldn't stop reading and it was inevitable not to fall in love with the characters.... Honestly this is the most beautiful story ever!!!!!

Falling for Colton. The most depressing book I have ever read. Full of street language, and horrible characters doing horrible things. I thought I was going to read a love story.
