Interesting book series. The Bitter Root series is an exceptionally interesting and well written series. The characters are so real I feel like I know them, and the fictional town is one I’d like to visit! The stories are realistic, intelligent, and easily flow from one book to the next. The plots are well thought out. I hope there are additional books in the series! In my opinion as good as C.J. Box and John Grissom.

A very nice read. Plot is intriguing. Most of the characters are usually quiet citizens of this quaint small town in Montana. But when a person who is new to the town is murdered then the two main characters go into action and provide a great murder mystery.

An Amazing Mystery. An amazing mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. Riley is new to Lost Trails, Montana when she is found dead on the steps of the medical clinic. Tiff has just returned home to the tree farm, after gone for many years. Dispatcher, Zach will use his own sleuthing to find the murderer. Love the cast of characters, all with interesting lives. Many layered secrets in this small mountain town, that I really enjoyed. Loved the town library!! I can't wait to visit Lost Trails again.

A Wonderful New Mystery. Lost Trail is a small town in western Montana and in this story we meet some of its residents and learn that there are lots of secrets in that town. I liked the way in which the Ms. Carmichael kept me guessing who the killer was and all of the various paths the story took me down. I’m glad that Zak wasn’t tainted by his brutal dad and that he stayed behind in the town after the rest of his family moved. Tiff was a fresh breath of air, worrying about her mother and all the happenings and changes to the tree farm, yet finding time to help Zak. Then there were all these other characters we were introduced to, setting the stage for future stories, I assume. I really enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. I highly recommend this book to other readers and I for one look forward to the next book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Bitter Roots. This twisted murder mystery is well written and will leave the reader wondering until the end.

Bitter Roots. I loved this mystery. I was enthralled right up to the end. Tiff is back in Lost Trail, MT after her life in Seattle crashed and burned. Zak is her high school friend, and dispatcher at the sheriff's office. Drama hits the small town when Riley, a newcomer to town who works at Tiff's family's tree farm, is found murdered in town. Zak and Tiff find themselves in the middle of solving the crime. The cast of characters was great. I was in suspense right up until the end. I had many of my own theories about the murder, but this book was so well written that I couldn't be confident about any of them. There were several strong possibilities. I enjoyed the closure at the end, finally learning who killed Riley and the motivation behind it. Great story!

Bittersweet page turner. Despite the saccharine aspect of some of the authors attempt to pull on the heart strings a bit much, This was an entertaining and involving story with a surprising conclusion.

Great book. Loved the book. Ready for 2nd in the series!

Enjoyable mystery with interesting characters. I enjoyed this mystery set in a modest, ranching town. There was plenty going on within this small town and many of the characters were suspects. The two main characters were interesting, as well as all the secondary characters. Zak was a different lead character for me. He was an underachiever, one that avoids the spotlight and I enjoyed his role. His character shows growth and I believe we may see a different career for him in upcoming books in the series. His longtime friend, Tiff, returns to town still dealing with the grief of losing two family members from over 20 years ago. I liked how she began to have more patience with her mother, be less judgmental and more accepting of her mother’s grief. Strong writing and the words flowed very well. I look forward to reading more books from this series as there are many great characters with stories of their own.

Bitter Roots. Lovely story by C.J. Carmichael. Plot development was excellent and steady as it carried the reader to the answers the reader was entertaining in their mind through every page right up to the end. Characters were made real to the reader and before the end felt like family. Definitely a good work by Carmichael and I highly recommend it as a must read and am sure will be enjoyed as much as I did. I am not on to the next one in the series. I suspect judging by this book the next one will be equally as good if not even better as by the next one in the series the reader will be following the same characters but with a new plot that no doubt will be as good as Bitter Roots was.

A definite page turner!. Zak Waller is happy being the dispatcher for the sheriffs office in Lost Trails, Montana. When a young woman is found murdered the sheriff is quick to try to pin it on someone from her past. Tiff Masterson comes home unannounced to find a stranger living in the family's guest house and running the Christmas tree farm. When she finds out that one of there temporary employees was killed she starts investigating with Zak. I usually don't read mysteries but Bitter Roots by C.J. Carmichael has changed that for me. I couldn't stop turning the pages to see who the killer was. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Bitter Roots. Wonderful true to life storyline, relatable characters a delightful read. Just when you think you have it figured out, you don’t. Give it a try you’ll be glad you did, I am.

PAGE TURNER. Very well written and characters were interesting people. Would have liked to have known some of them. Author was descriptive without going overboard. This was a book that I’ve virtually read every word. Quite a few twists and turns, therefore, I was happy that I was not able to figure this one out. Came close though. I will look into reading the other two books to this series.

A Hallmark Movie. Simple story with predictable ending.. much like a Hallmark movie

Lots of twists & turns. This story is very relatable to the location in Montana and the rural way of life. Follow the twists & turns as suspects come & go thru the story. The ending will surprise you ! !

First in series free books. I got this in iBooks under the free section, and loved it! It’s a sweet small town with intriguing characters-each with their own little stories happening around the main mystery. It was a surprise who-done-it at the end. Now on to buy and start book 2! Can’t wait to keep up with these characters and their lives. Read it, and you’ll likely want more too.

Enjoyable Reading. This is a must read boot about a small town with a lot going on. Hard to put the book down. Really makes you wish you had lived in the town.

Intriguing to the rnd. I’d love to see this series play out on tv. I think it’s going to be one that, if fine well, will really develop and get under your skin. Zak was my favorite character, and I’m curious to see how he develops. I confess I usually figure out the end before the MCs in these types of books, but I didn’t thus time. Great characters. Good mystery. Subtle and not action packed. But the heart is in the town and it’s people.

Different. This was a different type of mystery book than I’m used to reading. I liked it though and it was certainly nice to have a murder mystery and no wild sex involved. The last chapter and epilogue put a nice little bow on everything at the end. Good job.

Returning home. I loved reading this incredible story with a young woman returning home and one of her friends being a sheriff’s department dispatcher. They both end up solving different mysteries.

Cuts off. The ebook i downloaded stops abruptly at the end of alot of the chapters and usually in the middle of a sentence

Bitter Roots. The story is similar to a Miss Marple. Very twisted data in the beginning and many misdirections. Unlike the Miss Marple series this one smooths out and the connections between the facts and circumstances begin to establish. The mystery is solved but the characters lives are unresolved.
