This was a very stupid book. Sorry. But true. Predictable. Smutty but not smutty enough to be interesting. Waste of time.

The wedding date. Lisa Bateman's review Nov 19, 2017 · edit really liked it This was such a fun quirky read. There were some parts that had me laughing, and parts that warmed my heart. Alexa and Drew both work all the time. Neither has time nor wants to have a girlfriend or boyfriend. Little do they know that fate is going to knock them over the head. Alexa is meeting her sister who just got a partnership at a law firm. Drew is in town attending his best friend’s wedding as a groomsman. What makes it even more awkward is the friend is marrying Drew’s exgirlfriend. So Drew needs a date so he doesn’t look bad. Him and Alexa are on the same elevator when they get stuck. Luckily, she has cheese and cracker in her purse that she was planning on celebrating with her sister, along with a bottle of champagne. Drew thinks to ask her to attend the wedding with him. She will have to fake being his girlfriend. It was so much fun to read about Alexa and Drew faking their romance. But from the beginning, it wasn’t very hard. They both found themselves constantly holding hands or touching each other in some way. Too bad they live a long way from each other. They stay in touch and start a long distance relationship. There are a lot of bumps in the road and a lot Alexa doesn’t know about Drew. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were so well developed. I feel like I know all of them. I would like to see the author write a book with Carlos finding his better half. I really liked his character. The reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because of the reference about the trouble Olivia got in as a kid and how if it had been Drew, the cops would have done anything because he is white. That’s racist. And it offends me because my hubby was a cop for years and he was never that way. Yes, I know there are some that are but not all of the.

The most annoying book ever. Trash

Good Read. Started out slow but turned into a good read. Good beach read.

Quick and fun. Really fun read, cliched ending but worth it.

Couldn’t put it down!. I started this book this afternoon and finished already! What a beautiful love story!!

Cute and refreshing love story. Faux date to real love. So funny, cute, and relatable. I couldn’t stop smiling and couldn’t put it down.

very fun!. Getting stuck in an elevator with a hot guy totally sounds like a cheesy romantic comedy. Or so I thought, for some reason the author really made this work without being overly dramatic. I love that the story was told in both Drew and Alexa’s points of view within each of the chapters. I felt this way we, as readers know what was going on in each of their minds at the same point in time. I found the story a bit predictable towards the end, but didn’t mind because it was the way I wanted it to go. I immediately fell in love with Alexa, and was pulled in immediately. She was funny, flirty, cute and quirky all at the same time. Her mid tended to go into overdrive so quickly that I felt connected with her. I didn’t enjoy Drew at the get go, it took a while for me to actually start liking him, but I feel like that made the story more interesting. There were a few short steamy scenes, which I wasn’t really expecting, but didn’t make me too uncomfortable. They were pretty quick and to the point. Overall I would highly recommend this book to any lover of contemporary books who wants a quick and easy read that they can just enjoy.

Great story. A few corny bits but overall I really enjoyed it and could relate to Alexa a lot!

Marvelous Read! Should be Optioned and Turned into Movie!!. Well done!! Typically I go for sci-fi or serious autobiographies, but after hearing about this book and seeing some of the reviews, I decided to give it a chance. This is one of those light hearted fun reads that whisks you away...happily. It should definitely be turned into a movie!! Not sure who the lucky girl should be but you should consider Wolfgang Novogratz as the leading man! Werd! This is not a fake review. I am a real person! And this would be awesome!!!

Light & Enjoyable. Drew Nichols needed a date. The last thing he wanted was to be at his ex-girlfriend’s wedding, alone, looking like a pathetic loser. He probably deserved it, though. Drew had been a complete jerk. But, luck was on his side. The day before the wedding, Alexa showed up in his life. She was an intelligent, sexy woman, who fell for Drew’s sad story and agreed to be his fake girlfriend for the event. Alexa was anxious, about attending the wedding date, but excited too. Drew Nichols was not only a handsome physician; he was a funny one. Drew didn’t do relationships, however, so Alexa never expected to meet up with him, after her acting scheme, was over. But, that’s exactly what happened. One date turned into two, and then into something much more. Alexa tried not to over think things. Drew was not a commitment kind of guy. Alexa knew this, and yet, she couldn’t stop her heart from falling for him. As with all relationships, however, nothing is set in stone; feelings change, black and white opinions, become gray, and easy, becomes hard. Although The Wedding Date was an enjoyable, romantic and fun story, it lacked depth. If you are looking for a light romance with humor, though, this just might be the book for you. Thank you, Berkley Publishing and BookishFirst, for my advanced review copy.

Predictable. It had the potential to be an awesome read if it weren’t for the predictable story line. I wish it had more curves and twists. Instead it was kinda blah.

SO GOOD.. I preordered The Proposal as soon as I finished reading this novel. I’m now obsessed with Jasmine’s writing style and can’t wait to read more!

absolutely amazing and captivating. i love this book and i love the black female lead. the romance was everything and would 10/10 recommend!

Shallow. Utterly predictable with zero depth. It’s a cute book, but I’d like to have the few hours of my life I spent reading this back.

Ok but could be better. I love romance however this book was Like reading from a minor i say that because if your going do a Love scene do it dont leave the reader guessing what’s taking place. The story was cute the couple was good together but they kept going in circles it was basically the same over and over . The love scene was flat... but each opinion will be different every one has to read it for their self and form there own opinions of the book.

Omg. This book was absolutely amazing!! There aren’t enough good things I can say about. From the character to the plot everything was amazing!!

Pretty good. This was a really cute story. I liked it a lot. It’s pretty predictable and repetitive at times but I’m a sucker for a good love story.

his book made me fall in love with reading all over again.. I actually bought the physical book and it’s been so long since I’ve had the time to sit and read one like that. This book made me fall in love with reading all over again. It’s so beautifully written and makes the hopeless romantic in me swoon repeatedly. Just amazing

The Wedding Date. Good RomCom!

A must read!. Read this novel in one day! I laughed, I cried and I wished that the characters won each cliff hanging climax!

Love Love !. Every chapter of this book made me want to read more and more I couldn’t put the book down ! Amazing 1000 stars

Fun, Thought-Proving, Cleaner Romance. I needed a quick beach read, and was so grateful to stumble into this fun book with believable characters and thought-provoking themes. This was my favorite of the trilogy... very relatable for professional women of color. Guillory’s writing also leaves a bit to the imagination, which is much appreciated. Will read whatever she writes!

The Elevator Ride of a Lifetime. Alexa and Drew meet on a stuck hotel elevator, and Alexa becomes Drew's date to his ex's wedding. Was it love or lust at first sight? Sex can complicate a relationship and people set expectation based on how they feel personally. As busy professionals, Alexa and Drew skirt important issues by not having crucial conversations to deal with an interracial long-distance relationship. To further convolute matters, Drew has a no-girlfriend rule! Alexa and Drew get caught up in their feelings but how they do not know how to say it. This book is a quick romance story that will make you laugh, cry, and question intent.

Super cute story!. I enjoyed this story. I’ll be reading the whole series.

Childish, but entertaining. I have mixed feelings about this book. It’s like it was good, but also it wasn’t. It felt like it was written by a young teenager. Tiptoeing around sexual encounters. It was a little childish, but still entertaining and a little captivating. Fun, easy read.

A book you can read over and over. The chemistry between Alexa and Drew is undeniable and leaps right off the pages!! You find yourself smiling and giddy just reading how the two are drawn to each other. Their chance encounter is well written and takes it time and one you’ll want to read over and over.

A Breath of Fresh Air for Romance Lovers. In an era where so much of the romance has been taken over by erotica/soft porn masquerading romance, Guillory gets it right while mixing in socially progressive subplots. Enjoyed it immensely.

Cute story!. I really liked this book. A sweet romance that was realistic and a few times I caught myself going "awwww" . Looking forward to checking out Jasmine's other works.

Lacked dimension. Story was hard to get through. It was essentially one long sex scene, where they only took breaks for donuts and unrealistically resolved fights. I couldn’t wait for the book to be over.

Loved it!. Gave me butterflies ! Beginning to end, could not put down!

Outstanding. This was a really nice and readable boook. Enjoyed it very much and could hardly put it down.

Repetitious. The kick off of the story had some promise and intrigue, but it seemed like the author could never pull us out of the endless loop of casual sex that wasn’t really casual sex but nobody wanted to say that it wasn’t casual sex tap dance. Also I found the racial concerns a little bit one sided; there should have been a little angst for Drew as well as Alexa. I could see that the author was trying to weave in some character complexity with Drew’s patient concerns, and Alexa’s TARP project, but this story was definitely heavy on the “fooled around and fell in love” gambit which made it drag at times. Not something I’ll re-read.

Where's the Heat?!. Dr. An(Drew) Nichols and Alexa Monroe, meet in a malfunctioning elevator that is stuck with just the two of them. Resolved to their fate, they strike up a conversation. Eventually, Drew shares his tale of woe of being harangued into being a part of the wedding party of his ex-girlfriend and his ex-best friend. Cue the violins for the last minute drop-out of his wedding date and you can see why he'd ask a perfect attractive stranger to be his date. Alexa says yes, and it goes as well as can be expected and the wedding party and guests are intrigued with her. Afterwards, realizing they like one another, they embark on a long distance relationship, traveling back and forth between their respective cities. They both have high-powered careers, she's an attorney and works for the Mayor and eventually, misunderstanding(s) and the distance causes a wedge between the two of them and they take a break from one another. Alexa (unfairly IMO) gets angry at Drew when clear communication would have resolved the issues. To his credit, Drew doesn't kowtow to her by calling and pleading his case. I wish heroines would STOP getting angry and start being more honest about what "they" want in any type of relationship. Overall, I liked the story, but not the fade to black sex scenes. The story lacked heat. I don't need explicit details, but I definitely needed something more. I voluntarily received, read and reviewed the paperback version of this book courtesy of Penguin and BookishFirst.

Best. Book. Ever. Riveting.. This book was absolutely amazing! I couldn’t be more enthused with the entirety of it. I had to pacs myself so that I wouldn’t finish it too quickly and be upset..that didn’t work. Great book and great escape from the real world.

Stunned by so many good reviews. One of the worst books I’ve ever read. Awful writing. Shallowest plot ever. I’m convinced the positive reviews must be fake. There’s no other explanation.

Started off good….. Loved the beginning…got extremely bored with it half way in. Going to put it down for a while and come back to it.

Love it!!. Super good and I definitely smacked my head a couple times because of it lovely characters

Cute. Romantic. If you love love, you’ll love this!. I loved this book! I was a child-induced, raging toddlers hiatus from reading for almost 4 years and this was the perfect book to start with. Finished in less than a day, Alexa and Drew’s story pulled me all the way in. Jasmine Guillory did fantastic job. Can’t wait for The Proposal!

Loved this book❤️❤️❤️❤️. I loved this story so much! It was nice to read a romance novel that doesn’t rely on sex scenes to make the characters interesting. I thought that Alexa and Drew were great together. I also appreciated Alexa’s insecurities about relationships as well as the insecurities that come with a black woman/white male relationships. It was refreshing that while their racial differences were a part of their relationship insecurities, it wasn’t presented as either in surmountable or minimal. I will definitely be reading more of Jasmine Guillory’s work!

Couldn't put it down!. Such a cute love story. Very creative, bubbly, and all around happy story. The author really makes it easy to fall in love with the characters. Such a cute quick read for any time of day!

As promised - fun and flirty. Love Alexa! Great leading lady, naturally sexy, with brains, courage, purpose and cake. Dialogue was fun and clever. Made me miss the Bay Area. Did not want it to end. More please.

Really?. Wanted a break from serious reading. OMG the worst book I’ve read in a quite a while. The male character is your basic psychotic control freak sexual predator. Both main characters are vapid, juvenile and utterly forgetful.

Predictable. I liked parts but the characters were pretty boring and overly insecure. Carlos and Theo were very girly. It was just ok.

Good. I liked the story but I tend to stay away from anything too political, especially when that isn’t the genre of this book (at least I thought when I paid for it). I was kind of bummed that there were so many political remarks in this.

Loved it!!. So sweet! I couldn’t put it down! Love the characters and how they tie into the other books ❤️

Amazing love story💕. It was a great book! It was so easy for me to become one with the characters. I loved both of their personalities. I couldn’t put the book down! I bought the rest of the books of this series! Can’t wait to read those to fall in love with those characters as well❤️❤️

Loved it and couldn’t put it doen. I really loved this story. It was a refreshing love tail that gave me warm and fuzzies. I’m still thinking about the characters even though I finished the book.

Entertaining. I enjoyed reading this book. It’s entertaining, cute, and has lots of romance. It was very predictable, as most romcoms are. The dialogue was childish at some points, I cringed a few times. It was a quick and fun read overall and would recommend it as that. It’s not deep or thought provoking, although there is opportunity for that, but it isn’t touched upon too often. But it was a cute read and I finished it in one weekend! I liked the characters personalities and drive, especially Alexa when she was talking about her work.

I absolutely love this book!. I have read this book three times and I am sure I will read it again. I am so grateful to have found this author because I love all of her books so far.

Captivating.. This book was such a pleaser! I loved the way the main characters met and the story progression. I couldn’t stop reading till I got to the end. Absolutely worth it!

Started strong.... This book started strong and I really wanted to like it but... it lost steam about 1/3 through and I just couldn’t get back into it.

Predictable story and flat writing.. The story idea had potential but the writing is tired and the storytelling, flat. It dragged on and was tedious and boring by the end. Nothing to keep the reader engaged.
