Hostage by Skye Warren & Annika Martin Book Summary

"Deliciously sexy, emotionally gripping…Hostage rocked my whole world.” ~Marni Mann, author of PRISONED

I’d never even kissed a boy the night I met Stone. The night I saw him kill. The night he spared my life. That was only the beginning.

He turns up in my car again and again, dangerous and full of raw power. “Drive,” he tells me, and I have no choice. He’s a criminal with burning green eyes, invading my life and my dreams.

The police say he’s dangerously obsessed with me, but I’m the one who can’t stop thinking about him. Maybe it’s wrong to let him touch me. Maybe it’s wrong to touch him back. Maybe these twisted dates need to stop. Except he feels like the only real thing in my world of designer labels and mansions.

So I drive us under threat, until it’s hard to remember I don’t want to be there.

Until it’s too late to turn back.

HOSTAGE is a dangerous standalone romance by New York Times bestselling authors Skye Warren and Annika Martin. It’s set in the same world as PRISONER, but can read separately!

“Fast paced and oh so addicting!" - #1 NYT bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken

Could be so much better if only..... I absolutely hate the way many contemporary romance writers stray off topic with pages of what I call 'mindless blurb'. They write something then spend many paragraphs, sometimes pages, on the thoughts in their characters mind. Meanwhile to me I find it extremely repetitive and quite frankly boring. I've read somewhere that theory behind that is that many authors try to write what they consider meaningful enough so that it will be highlighted. This apparently happens on other sites such as kindle and the amount of quotes that are highlighted are a kind of honor. Bragging rights in some eyes. For what ever reason I find it so annoying when I skim through pages just looking for quotation marks so I know the story is finally moving on. I don't run across this in any other kind of books. It seems to be a terrible habit of new contemporary romance writers. I hope this trend phases out soon.

Dark and different. Loved this. Different than your average book. Definitely has a lot of darkness in it but that’s what makes it interesting. I couldn’t stop reading!

Addictive from beginning to end.. It was absolutely amazing. I read prisoner first and I love the way the two stories mixed. It never lost its charm and heat. I might have gotten lost a time or two and forgot a load of laundry, yeah it’s that addicting. ♥️

Excellent!!. Loved this so much!

Wow. Did not expect this justice is served

Dark Romance at its best!. Dark Romance is what you’ll get by reading this book. It was well written and I felt all the intense emotions that came with it! I hope more characters from this book get their story. I just really want more.

So gripping!. I’ve read both prisoner and hostage, and found both to be incredibly addicting. Managed to finish both in a day as I was so sucked in. Gutted I’ve finished them!

Skye and Annika have once again delivered the goods!. Hostage swept me up into Stone and Brooke’s world of secrets and lies from the very first page. I was consumed by the violent hunt for mysterious men. Intrigued by sweet innocent yet very broken Brooke. But mostly I was in awe of Stone and everything about him. His character was undoubtedly the stand out. Crafted in a way that shined through and complimented what appears to have been a carefully constructed tale. Every facet of his character was brought to life on the pages in front of me and I appreciated every moment of Skye Warren and Annika Martin’s brilliant storytelling. Hostage left no rock unturned; no detrimental mystery unsolved which I’m grateful for. The first time I read Prisoner, (Grayson and Abby’s story and the first standalone novel in the series) I found myself with unanswered questions I had hoped would have been addressed before the end of the novel. I’m so glad to be able to say that isn’t the case this time around. Stone and Brooke really brought this series full circle in regards to the major plot line filling the pages of both Prisoner and Hostage. Will we see more of the other brothers in future novels? I definitely hope so. In Hostage and also Prisoner, Skye and Annika divulge enough fragments into the lives of Stone’s brothers to have you craving more of them, that’s for sure. While I breathed every moment of Hostage like I was right there with Stone and his brothers when they were blood thirsty, or Brooke and her overbearing parents. I can’t say I finished Hostage thinking, “Oh my god! I loved it all!” Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the story in its entirety. I mean, is it even possible to not feel strongly about a Skye Warren novel? I wouldn’t know. Her stories always provoke a lot of feeling from me. BUT… yes, here’s the but. I personally struggled to connect with Brooke and believe in Brooke and Stone’s connection. Shock horror. I know. If it’s one thing Skye Warren is amazing at it’s building an undeniable connection between her characters. This took me by surprise too. I will say this, it definitely wasn’t because of the age gap or the fact Brooke was sixteen when her and Stone first met. I struggled believing in our unlikely couple because I couldn’t fully understand why Stone was so drawn to Brooke. With Brooke, I got it. But early on in the story this wasn’t portrayed with words or actions that led me to believe in Stone’s strong feelings for Brooke. The only other reason to bring my rating down is I felt the ending was rushed. Maybe I’m being selfish because I simply didn’t want the book to end. I could live in this world with Stone, Grayson and their brothers forever. (Skye, Annika: I’ll take a room at the Bradford, thanks!) But personally, I felt the tying up of lose ends and everything coming full circle, overshadowed the romance and happily ever after for Stone and Brooke as a couple. Everything towards the end happened so fast, rather than unfolding like the rest of the story. And as I said, I’m selfish and wanted more words, more romance and well, just more. But you know what, you might love that ending. And if you’ve read and loved Skye or Annika’s work before you should definitely dive into Hostage because it’s so them. The vivid storytelling. The twisted mysteries. The men you should probably hate but can’t help but love. And let’s not forget their strong women. Skye and Annika have once again delivered the goods in the form of an unlikely family on a path of revenge and one girl who could change everything for them.

Absolutely incredible writing. Wowsa, this book was intense! So captivating and dark and brutal and light and thrilling. There were so many elements to this story, the main characters were so interesting and opposite yet perfectly complementary. I absolutely loved it. It was new age, with a very dark undertone yet it didn’t make me cry, which is an absolute credit to the authors. I loved the language, the tone, the crassness. It was brilliant writing that had my pulse racing and had me completely invested.

Best book.. I read this book every year and it still shocks me every time. Everything about it is perfect.

Unbelievably amazing!. Like “the Prisoner”, this book is dark and arousing. But it’s a little creepy too given how young and innocent Brooke is, though I imagine that is exactly what attracts Stone so much. This story is powerful, gripping, excruciating in its heartbreak. The choices between justice and protection of loved ones is unbearable. There were some inconsistencies in this story and “The Prisoner” about the first meetup between Grayson and Stone after the prison break.

Full of heat and longing!. Wild, sexy, and sympathetic! These words describe the main characters, as well as their love. Stone Keaton is a monster. If you knew the things he has done, you would agree. He is driven by vengeance and pain. Stone and his “blood brothers” were monsters forged as children trapped in basement for years on end, made to endure unspeakable things by evil men. And Stone, the eldest, is the biggest, baddest monster of them all; the one with the most to prove. The one most determined to lash back at those evil men wearing respectable faces, while shielding his brothers from the dark. When Stone encounters Brooke Carson in an unexpected turn of events, it as if a tiny light flickers inside his darkness. He develops an obsession with her that is as beautifully poignant as it is creepy. He is curious about her innocence, her naïveté. He wants to own her but he also wants to protect her from himself. He needs someone to see him, not with fear and disgust, as we would, but with wonder as Brooke does. She is completely outside of his mission of revenge but he can’t forget about her. Brooke is the only child of one of the elite families in Franklin City. She sees in Stone, not a repulsive killer, but someone who is strong and free. She’s not delusional. Her insight and maturity are remarkable; her affection for her stalker believable. Their romance is so intoxicating and palpable, and proof that you don’t need loads of sex scenes in order to create smoking hotness. Despite their long periods of separation, you can feel these two burning for each other every time they are apart. In Hostage (and its companion Prisoner) Annika and Skye have combined to create complex, compassionate antiheroes who have the appeal of justifiable wildness, danger, and ruthlessness. The romance is smoulderingly sexy and the writing is thoughtfully sophisticated. I enjoyed every minute of it! (I have received an ARC for this book but my opinion is sincerely and voluntarily given.)
