The Paris Seamstress by Natasha Lester Book Summary

For readers of Lilac Girls and The Nightingale comes an internationally bestselling World War II novel that spans generations, crosses oceans, and proves just how much two young women are willing to sacrifice for love and family.

1940: As the Germans advance upon Paris, young seamstress Estella Bissette is forced to flee everything she's ever known. She's bound for New York City with her signature gold dress, a few francs, and a dream: to make her mark on the world of fashion.

Present day: Fabienne Bissette journeys to the Met's annual gala for an exhibit featuring the work of her ailing grandmother - a legend of women's fashion design. But as Fabienne begins to learn more about her beloved grandmother's past, she uncovers a story of tragedy, heartbreak and family secrets that will dramatically change her own life.

I’m in love with love and Fashion and Paris.. This book was a home run. I’ve been to Paris twice and am still craving to go back soon. I would love to fall in love , learn to speak French and live in the Le Marais district forever. End of story. You can fill in the blanks. Especially after reading this book. I am about to buy another of her books right now.

The Paris Seamstress. Loved this book great Historical Fiction with twists and turns!

The Paris Seamstress. What a gorgeous, perfect book. I loved it. So much.

The plot drags on and is ridiculous. How many astounding coincidences can you have in one book? Really? And then make the plot line drag on forever when everything is moving towards an obvious conclusion. I was very disappointed with this book, which turned out to be more of a harlequin romance than historical fiction.

My favorite nivek. I personally loved this book! I work in the fashion industry so I really appreciated her detail in the description of the garments and atelier scenes (trying not to give too much away!). As far as the “cliche” reviews, I did not find it easy or telling at all. It kept me on my toes andu provided a sweet scene of old world Paris and New York which I found comforting. It was exactly what I was searching for in a summer read that was different than beach town romances. I could not recommend this book more!

Great fiction about ww2 and current times, with fashion a sideline to the plot. Very good.

Loved it. Wonderful book with a lot of twists and turns. Kept me guessing!

Unimpressive. Although there are a few plot points beyond typical paperback romance novels this book is just as trite and smarmy. Twins separated at birth, cliche. Men who are terribly wicked, tragically flawed or nearly perfect (but never nuanced), cliche. Women who have great difficulty seeing truth and logic, also cliche. Some of the dialogue was so poorly written it is hard to believe an editor let it pass. Two stars for the bits of history that came through and for some of the fashion description but there was not enough of anything else here to recommend the book. Don't waste your time. Read Dickens A Tale of Two Cities or Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliette instead.
