Som barn drömmer Nadia Murad om att bli historielärare eller öppna sin egen skönhetssalong. Livet i byn Kocho i norra Irak är lugnt och stilla. I augusti 2014 förändras allt. Nadia, som nyss fyllt 21 och fortfarande går i skolan, kidnappas och säljs som sexslav till Islamiska statens soldater. Sex av hennes bröder, och strax därefter även hennes mamma, mördas brutalt. Under tre månader utsätts hon för upprepande misshandel och våldtäkt innan hon slut lyckas fly.
"Den sista flickan" är Nadia Murads berättelse om sin tid i fångenskap och om sin livsviktiga kamp mot Islamiska staten. Idag är hon bosatt i Tyskland och är människorättsaktivist och goodwill-ambassadör för FN. Nadia Murad tilldelades Nobels fredspris 2018.
