Stadig Alice by Lisa Genova Book Summary
Alice Howland er stolt af det liv, hun har skabt sig. I en alder af halvtreds år er hun kognitiv psykolog ved Harvard og en verdenskendt lingvist, og også på hjemmefronten er alt, som det skal være: en dejlig mand og tre pragtfulde børn, der dog nu er flyttet hjemmefra. Hun synes måske, at hun en gang imellem kan være lidt glemsom, fx gå ud i køkkenet og så have glemt, hvad hun egentlig skulle derude, men helt ærligt, hvem kender ikke den situation?
Først da Alice står på et gadehjørne i det kvarter, hvor hun har boet i en menneskealder, og ikke aner, hvordan hun kommer hjem, indser hun, at der er noget rivende galt, og den efterfølgende diagnose, alzheimers, fejer benene væk under både hende og familien. Med ét slag er hele det velordnede, dejlige, tjekkede liv vendt på hovedet, og forude venter kun mørket.
Man skulle tro, at man med et så alvorligt emne kun kan skrive en dyster og forfærdelig bog, men det er ikke tilfældet her. Midt i alt det sørgelige stråler varme og kærlighed, medmenneskelighed, medfølelse og såmænd også humor ud af historien om Alice. Lisa Genova har en ph.d. i neurovidenskab og er formand for USA’s National Alzheimer’s Association.
