Fantastic. Fantastic chemistry, fantastic spy story, and I will definitely need to look into the next installment of this series.

Fun, Steamy, Historical Thriller. I don’t often read romance novels, but there was something about this novel when I read the summary online that really appealed to me. Will Darling returns to the UK from World War I with no money and can’t find a job. He reunites with an uncle and begins to work at his bookshop in London. The uncle dies and leaves everything to Will. Eager to start his new life as a bookseller, both a mysterious organization and the War Office appear at the store and threaten him for vital information his uncle may have hidden. Fortunately for Will, Kim Secretan shows up to help him out, but not everything is what it appears to be. This is less of a romance novel (though there are some steamy, steamy scenes) but a historical romance spy thriller. I absolutely loved this book. The writing was excellent, well plotted with an excellent pace, and fun characters. I was engaged all the way through this book and I was anxious to see how it ends. I really liked that this was set after World War I. We get some backstory to Will’s life in the trenches, which was tragic and traumatizing. I cheered for our protagonist all the way through. There are some lovely ladies in this novel as well and I hope we get more from them in the future. This is the first book in a trilogy. Lovely. More very good writing, of course a lot is left hanging as it’s 1 of 3 books but the heat and attraction between Kim and Will is great. I look forward to the next book. *** somewhat of a spoiler** I understood why Kim has to remain true to his character but it is hard to take and also a bit unbelievable that Will would not only tolerate it but seem to court it.

Secrets and Betrayal. Another wonderful period piece from KJ Charles. Everything seems right for the era in which the book is set; the speech and language, the clothes, the style of furniture and sadly, how returning soldiers were treated. Having said that though, things don’t seem to have changed much for returning veterans today. An unlikely duo, Will Darling, a returned soldier who had to pawn his medals in order to survive for another few weeks, and aristocrat, Lord Arthur ‘Kim’ Secretan, who offers to help Will when he needs help, seemingly out of the goodness of his heart. But he has secrets and more secrets. I loved the interaction between Will and Kim and I’m very interested to see where Book 2 in this series will take them.

Will Darling series. Have enjoyed reading this trilogy a few times.
