WOW! What a story!. So I’m working my through the Siege of Terra storyline and this book was hard to put down. Tons of big name action, several different storylines with a wide variation of conflicts going at the same time. Multiple key characters we came to know from book 1, Horus Rising, are on scene in this book. Excellent, adrenaline pumping, explosive round firing action. Loved it!

The Master. All the authors for the Heresy go above and beyond for their contributions. Somehow Abnett takes it up another notch.

So worth the wait!. Dan Abnett proves once again why he is the best of the best in the Warhammer universe! I am a fan of all the Horus Heresy Authors and have read every novel, anthology, novella and short story. WH40k is let’s face it Dark on a good day. This story tied up a couple loose ends, surprised me (not giving it away!) and hinted at so much more. Most importantly it hinted at the resiliency of the human spirit and kindled hope.

Best book of the Heresy series. Bar none!

Every page worth the reading.. If you understand why zrenderuje version of The Lord of the Rings movie is better than normal one, you will also appreciate long read of the Saturnine. What an amazing story with number of plots, cliffhangers and rich personalities. Good dynamics and well embedded feeling of the dark moments of terra. On the last page i was disappointed only with one thing: why there was no another 200 pages to read?

Easily the highlight. Dan Abnett is a proper writer. The other Siege/Heresy authors can be very good, almost great sometimes, but none really has the pedigree or talent of Abnett. There’s a real quality just to the writing, in style and construction. Saturnine is never dull. It’s never a battle report or an endless list of war machines and numerical death stats. I read this series for the stories more than people who play the game. I guess some like the stats and gameplay style from some authors, but Dan Abnett’s books are always a clever mix of tension, emotion, sweeping thematic arcs, and a feeling of the epic set against the intimate. Saturnine features some of the most epic battles ever written for 40K lit but it’s easily it’s best when it’s just quiet conversations in darkened rooms. As Abnett set the original grown up tone in Horus Rising years ago, so it returns here with a lot of characters who’ve become cartoonish in other hands restored to cinematic greatness. There’s a lot of fans up in arms about some lore changes here, and I did agree with one or two, but as one of Saturnine’s themes is about how history comes to be written, often cobbled together from myth, confusion, exaggeration, and distortion, it’s perfectly fine to see Saturnine not so much telling you what’s true but giving you one of the better lies that form part of the whole. 5 stars all the way.

Stunning. I’ve been a 40K addict since the late 80s when the background lore was either nonexistent or extremely vague. Over the years I’ve read all that I could get my hands on particularly around the Imperium and the Traitor Legions, soaking up all the various stories and pieces of information in this enormous story jigsaw. With regards to this book it’s absolutely awesome, as usual Dan Abnett has smashed this novel out of the ball park. Obviously I won’t give any spoilers just.... WOW!!!!! I can’t wait for the next Instalment!

Saturnine Rips. Justified reading 35 prequel novels. Not much else to say about that.

Riveting!. The grandfather of 40k fiction returns with an incredible novel at the height of the Siege. The callbacks and payoffs by the end make this entry the standout star of this already great series.
