The Dinner Guest by B P Walter Book Summary

THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

‘Immensely gripping…Stayed up till past 2am to finish this’ Sophie Hannah

Four people walked into the dining room that night. One would never leave.

Matthew: the perfect husband.

Titus: the perfect son.

Charlie: the perfect illusion.

Rachel: the perfect stranger.

Charlie didn’t want her at the book club. Matthew wouldn’t listen.

And that’s how Charlie finds himself slumped beside his husband’s body, their son sitting silently at the dinner table, while Rachel calls 999, the bloody knife still gripped in her hand.

Classic crime meets Donna Tartt in this nerve-shredding domestic noir thriller that weaves a sprawling web of secrets around an opulent West London world and the dinner that ends in death.

The Dinner Guest. Though. Read it to the end, I dislike books that jump from one character to another ( in first person) to try to explain their perspective and books that jump from past to present and vice versa. I find that difficult to follow. Also found too similar thought processes in different characters. The jumps in time and characters seemed to be used in an artificial manner to create confusion as to the killer. It did not.

Intriguing Menu. 4.5 rounded up Welcome to dinner. This is one meal you don’t want to miss, or maybe you do once you see the menu. Two fathers, a son and a friend (of sorts) arrive at the dinner table. One of them expires before dessert is served, cold of course. This is an excellent and delicious mystery with so many secrets. And we all know that secrets are truths just waiting to bubble up to the surface so that they are fully visible. They never stay hidden. I really thought I had things figured out, more than once, but I didn’t. And even once some truths come out there are more. I’m not going to spoil your appetite by telling you anything more. You’ll need to sample it on your own like I did. I was completely immersed from the beginning chapters. The author has done a wonderful job in moving all the pieces into a perfect and precise puzzle.

Amazing. Amazing, had me gripped from the very start

Disappointing. This had the potential to be good, but the writer just wasn’t skilful enough to pull it off. The characters don’t come to life, and the tension doesn’t build in the way it’s clearly supposed to.

Good twists in the plot. A really interesting read which keeps you guessing

Excellent. Really good read

Brilliant. Brilliant read, I couldn’t put it down, I was hooked from the very start! This has to be the best book I’ve read this year & the first I’ve ever left a review for.

The dinner guest. Good book, solid 4 stars, excellent ending that I didn’t see coming,.

First book I’ve finished in years!. Effortless read, manager to just flow through within the space of a few days which I haven’t done in years, so perfect if you want something to read to get you back on the horse. Has a few twists that were easy to see and some that were less easy. Hated the ending, not for those who don’t like things to be wrapped up in a neat little bow. Overall pretty good though!

Dinner guest. Gripping from the start couldn’t put down- can’t wait to start next book by same author

Good read. Did expect more of a twist but I enjoyed it though thank you BP Walter, hope you enjoy it too people.

Brilliant.. I think you should just read it. Don’t read any more reviews. I just bought it having never heard of it and that seems the best way. I can’t really describe it - if I leave out the important bits it would sound fairly uninspiring and not do it justice, but if I include them it would spoil it for you. The plot and writing are excellent. I guess it is in the same league as ”before I go to sleep”. So read it now or someone else you know will read it first and blurt out a spoiler. Or a film will be made (which will be excellent, but not quite as good as the book), and you’ll see the trailer first which will no doubt include information that should preferably remain secret. Anyway take my word for it and read this book next. Very very good.

Very enjoyable. I loved this book. Very readable and full of suspense.

Tediously long winded. I cannot understand how this book can be called « gripping ». It started well enough but that’s the only positive thing I can say about it. I never thought I would reach the end of it, it just dragged on and on. Sorry but I think this was one of the dullest books I’ve had the misfortune to read!

W o W. The 10293842728th book I’ve ever read. The 1st book I’ve ever left a review about. Absolutely, undoubtedly the best book I’ve ever read. Up until the ending! Is there a sequel!? Please tell me there’s a sequel!

Thriller. Riveting and well written

Great twist in the tale.. Well written
