The Family Across the Street by Nicole Trope Book Summary

‘OMG!!! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!… The most heart-racing book I’ve read in a long time, if not ever!!! It had me hook, line and sinker from the first page and I could not put it down!!!… Clear your day because it is truly unputdownable… What an absolute twist!!!… If you read one book in your life, make sure it is this!!!!’ Bookworm86, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sometimes, the most perfect families are hiding the most terrible secrets. How well do you know the people next door…?

Everybody wants to live on Hogarth Street, the pretty, tree-lined avenue with its white houses. The new family, the Wests, are a perfect fit. Katherine and John seem so in love and their gorgeous five-year-old twins race screeching around their beautiful emerald-green lawn.

But soon people start to notice: why don’t they join backyard barbecues? Why do they brush away offers to babysit? Why, when you knock at the door, do they shut you out, rather than inviting you in?

Every family has secrets, and on the hottest day of the year, the truth is about to come out. As a tragedy unfolds behind closed doors, the dawn chorus is split by the wail of sirens. And one by one the families who tried so hard to welcome the Wests begin to realise: Hogarth Street will never be the same again.

A completely gripping, twist-packed psychological thriller, perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty, Sally Hepworth and Lisa Jewell.

Excellent Read!!!!. I couldn’t put this book down! I read it in one sitting! I could literally see Gladys pacing and worrying about what was going on in her neighborhood. The tension in the house across the street had chills running up my spine. I dare anyone to start reading this book and then simply lay it down before you get to the end.

Excellent. I’ve read quite a few of this author’s books and they’ve all been very well written, very interesting, and without distracting typos.

Could not put down!!. This was a great book! I love thrillers and this one did not disappoint. I never could have guessed the plot and twists. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end.

Different than the blurb. Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for my ARC! This book isn’t at all what I anticipated from the blurb. I was expecting a gradual unraveling of secrets related to a family on a suburban street. Instead, I got a heinous situation pretty much right off the bat, and one that escalated as the book progressed. The entire storyline plays out during the course of a single day, the scenes conjuring a heightened sense of claustrophobia along with escalating danger. There are a number of characters who surprise you. When the book started, I wasn’t sure how I felt about and delivery driver, Logan, or neighbor, Gladys, but both become standout characters and steal the show. I’m not sure what it says about me that I was more invested in them than Katherine, the woman in danger. I don’t want to say much about this novel for fear of giving the plot away. There are scenes that made me uncomfortable that touched on domestic abuse (I usually avoid such books but didn’t realize the theme before downloading it). That said, as intense as some scenes were, they didn’t turn me off from the story. I found it engrossing and was completely caught off guard by the twist at the end. This was a well-executed story, but I felt the blurb was misleading, thus the story was not what I expected. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 for review purposes.

**NEEDS WARNING ADDED**. I haven’t finished reading this book yet (I will), but I had to go ahead and review for a good reason. The book is really interesting so far -I’m halfway through it-but I had to skip to the end and spoil the twist for myself in order to continue. Someone really needs to add a trigger warning to the description. There are very graphic depictions of domestic violence in here……..unfortunately for me, a lot of it was uncomfortably familiar, as I was a victim of some similar behaviors as what is described. I am certainly not complaining about the author, the writing, or the story itself, but if I’d known about this particular content, I would have steered clear as a DV survivor. Without spoiling anything, I will say that skipping to the end helped enough for me to go back and continue reading, mainly because I just don’t like not finishing books once I’ve gotten started on them. But I almost stopped several times and definitely had to take some breaks. Though interesting, it’s a pretty dark read regardless of one’s situation. But if you’ve been a victim of DV, I would not recommend this particular book.

Keeps you interested. Couldn’t stop reading!! Loved it

Love this book!!!. Excellent!!! Creative writing Genius!

A great read.. Lots of surprises! I couldn’t put the book down.

Loved!!!!!. My Review: Wow, I loved this one so much. This was the best Nicole Trope book yet. A whole box of tissues were gone in just a few hours. It was so intense that I was sit at the edge of my seat the whole time. I couldn’t put this one down for the the life of me. No bathroom breaks at all for me. Ok, let’s talk about this book a little bit. In the United States we had a show called What Would You Do? This is exactly how I would describe this book. There was an awful event happening in a quiet neighborhood and decisions needed to made on whether or not to get involved. They had to decide what would be the right thing to do? I loved this about the book. Now on that my favorite character of the book. I loved Logan for so many reasons but the main one was that he was so brave. Logan had a past and pushed past that to help someone in need. He didn’t know if that past was going to catch up to him and get him in trouble again but chose the right thing to do anyway. Next up is the story. The blurb did not say it all when you read it. In fact you knew almost nothing about the book. I had no clue what I was really get into with this book but loved the way it turned out. It actually made it better that I had no clue what was going to happen. Now let’s talk about that ending. That ending really came full circle for me. All the loose ends were wrapped up so nice. I never had a book wrap up so tight before. There were no questions that were left unanswered. Nicole Trope this was by far the best book you written yet. Please don’t stop writing and I look forward to your next one. Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Great book. I couldn’t stop reading.

good book, but nothing special. the best part of a psychological thriller is when the pieces of the puzzle come together at the end in a way you never expected. in this book, i felt as though the pieces were sort of shoved together even though they didn’t match up. sort of a ‘forced coincidence’. it was mostly good, though. just not spectacular. would recommend.

The Family Across the Street. 3/5 stars. Way too wordy.

Boring read!. A huge waste of time.

Really enjoyed this!. I loved how it all tied together. Great characters, very suspenseful. Great read!

Could be better. It’s a good book, it’s almost confusing you think her husband is keeping her hostage when it actually her long lost son. It tells a lot of information that’s not Important it’s just filler info to make the book longer. Very boring ending

So mind twisting and so good 😵. This book had me at the first page. You won’t see it coming Just download it and read it! 👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Family Across the Street. 5 STARS ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ — wish I could give more than that!!! Edgy, intense, superb thriller!!! Only took me 2 days to devour this iBook!!! Nicole Trope weaves this story so superbly! I think I forgot to breathe at times...or found myself holding my breath at long intervals while reading this iBook! Unexpected twists and turns kept up the suspense throughout the story. This story is so far my favorite one. And, I have read 3 others. Each one is unique and standalone and GREAT!!! Nicole is an excellent writer/author. Her stories linger long time on my mind, even after finishing the story...with woven different plots included. I am a huge fan, Nicole! Keep continuing on writing & making fantastic books!!! 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰

Quick read with unpredictable twists. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I flew through this book in one afternoon. This book is about a terrifying day in one families life. I was immediately sucked into the story because I knew, I just knew, that it would contain a big twist. I was not disappointed. All I could say is “what!” One tragic day that reminded me of how small the world really is and the long arms of consequences.

Amazing. I read it in one day! I could not put it down!!!!

Engaging read. Good character development, pacing & story

AMAZING. This book was hands down the best book I’ve ever read!!!! Wish there was a movie too.

Good read. I enjoyed reading this book!! I could hardly put it down. It’s definitely a page turner. It’s very well written and everything follows wonderfully.

Horrible book. If I could give this book zero stars, I would.

4 stars!!. I have never left a review and read a lot! But this book kept me guessing which is usually really difficult…a little slow to start with but then suddenly grips you and you don’t want to stop, brilliant ending loved it.

Great. Redefines the meaning of “page turner”

Gripping!!. Great story! Had me hooked from the very beginning!

Loved it. Very good book, finished it in a day. Couldn’t put it down.

Page turner. This book had me glued with every turn of the page! Excellent read!!

Unputdownable. Loved this book, the characters, the plot, the suspense, the reality. I normally read a book a week, I read this in a day and a half. Just one more chapter…. Not read any Nicole Trope books before but that’s exactly what I’m going to do next.

WOW. I literally could not get enough of this book, finished in 24 hours. Pulled a 2am job because I couldn’t put it down!! Amazingly written.

Great read. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, well written couldn’t put it down . Brill

The family across the street. Brilliant read.. loved it

An engrossing, nail-biting read!. What an engrossing, nail-biting read! This compulsive novel grabbed me right from the start, with a shotgun being fired inside a neighbour’s house. And so begins the fast-paced action! The story is told via flashbacks to the build up to this situation and from three POV: Katherine, the mother inside the house with twins George and Sophie; Logan, a heavily tattooed ex-con, trying his hardest to conquer his anger issues and turn his life around; and Gladys, an elderly ‘nosy’ neighbour, looking after her husband whose health is rapidly declining. This is a strongly emotional and all-absorbing story, all the back stories had me gripped, caring about all the characters and the complexities of their individual lives. It has been intricately plotted with twists aplenty. It is, at times, quite brutal, but always realistic and totally absorbing. I read late into the night to reach the final, nerve-wracking conclusion but was relieved that the story was completely wrapped up for me. Totally recommend this book!

Page turner. Couldn’t put this down, desperate to find out what was going to happen to Kate and her children, good twist, thoroughly enjoyed in a day flat!

Wow!. Fantastic story, superbly written with a twist you will not see coming.

Absolutely Brilliant!. What a brilliant book. Totally had me hooked and couldn’t put it down. One of my quickest reads the date, and can’t wait to read more!

Good build up, disappointing end. Found the majority of the book pretty gripping but the twist wasn’t as big as the promo suggests and the end went on for a bit too long; it was a bit too sentimental for my taste.

Clever ending. Good twist

Brilliant Read. This book had me glued to every page but not able to turn the pages quick enough. Full of suspense. Loved it.

Tense read!. Eek! What a terrifyingly tense book this was. It began with a bang, letting me know that danger was imminent, but successfully keeping the mystery cloaked until the right time. Everything happens in a few hours so the the book had a real-time feel to it. There are four main character perspectives. Logan, Gladys, Katherine and the perpetrator. Gladys came with her own heartbreaking story. Logan came with baggage and inquisitiveness. The chapters written from the perpetrators perspective were totally terrifying and as for Katherine... no parent should ever be in her position. I very much enjoyed the reveals near the end and they left me thinking. If you love a thriller with deep psychological aspects and bags of immediate danger to keep you biting your nails, then ‘The Family Across the Street’ is what you’re looking for!

Was ok. Had a decent twist but felt like it dragged out a bit but was a ok read

So good. The twist is soo good and this books had me on edge in the end ! Absolutely great book!

Not worth it. I found the writing to be really poor. The story line was very boring and I don’t feel the twist was interesting whatsoever.

Awesome read. Great book. Couldn’t put it down, disturbing but couldn’t stop. Haven’t read something like this for a while.

Enjoyable and intelligent. A good read, some nice twists and challenges you to guess the ending.

One for the curtain twitchers. After reading all the glowing reviews I thought I’d give this a go. It was incredibly disappointing, and honestly I didn’t really care how it ended. It certainly wasn’t a thrilling end.

Excruciatingly slow and drawn out. So disappointing! So drawn out and slow. Not up to her usual standards.

Highly recommend. This was a truly wonderful book. The combining of the stories and worlds colliding was amazing. So emotional, gripping and the ending was so unexpected. Most importantly, the messages in this book were loud and clear and in today’s society - much needed. Nicole’s work just keeps getting better and better. Highly recommend.

Not bad. Book was good! I enjoyed it, although I did get lost.

AMAZING. BEST BOOK THAT I HAVE EVER READ!!!!!!!! 😍😍 THIS BOOK IS A MUST HAVE. MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE TO BE EITHER LOGAN, SOPHIE, DEBBIE OR GALDYS.

A lucky find. I picked up this book with no expectations, just a sort of fill in between projects. It turned out to be a great decision Characters especially Logan Gladys and George were really well drawn a believable. The whole premise and interweaving was totally realistic. Will have to look for more titles by Nicole. Thanks!

Not for me. Sorry, I know this has good reviews, and jumped on it as a result. Not for me. Poor plot line, writing style and engagement.

Read in a day. Just couldn’t put it down- fab suspense

Just great. Just great! It’s been a long time since I’ve sat down and read a book cover to cover!

On the edge of my seat until the end!. What a great thriller with great characters and a huge twist that I was NOT expecting! Picked this book up in the morning and did not put it down until I was done! I just needed to know what happened!

The family across the street. This is the most boring dragged-out plot in a book that I have ever read. A sure cure for insomnia. What a disappointment…..yawn.
