Locus Solus by Raymond Roussel Book Summary
Grand Raymond Roussel : vie hors du commun bien sûr, un héritage qui fait de lui un homme fortuné, libre de se consacrer aux passions qui le brûlent. Compositeur, pianiste de génie, inventeur tous azimuts, sauf qu'incompris. Et, au-des la passion d'écrire : un inventeur, un manipulateur (voir son légendaire Comment j'ai écrit certains de mes livres), un expérimentateur sur comment s'y prendre.
Et pourtant, à chaque publication, de son vivant, l'échec qui le conduira au suicide, à Palerme, en 1933.
Il nous laisse, parmi une suite de monstres littéraires qui en mettent toutes les valeurs à bas, au moins une oeuvre en apparence raisonnable : la description du parc, dans la demeure d'un étrange inventeur, Martial Cantarel, et quelques rencontres qu'on y fait.
Il fallait cela pour que nous entrions, nous, comme dans un rêve, dans ces machines étranges, mêlant l'art du récit à de fascinantes inventions plastiques, machines à arracher les dents et composant ces labyrinthiques oeuvres d'art à partir des dents collectées ?
"Locus Solus", paru en 1914, au bord de la catastrophe du monde, est un livre des plus immenses, vaguement inquiétant, toujours acide, un défi à notre relation ordinaire au monde.
Il suffit pourtant d'y suivre l'explorateur Échenoz pour être pris par le plus simple, le plus époustouflant et troublant roman.
