Amped by Daniel H. Wilson Book Summary

Technology makes them superhuman. But mere mortals want them kept in their place. The New York Times bestselling author of Robopocalypse creates a stunning, near-future world where technology and humanity clash in surprising ways. The result? The perfect summer blockbuster.

As he did in Robopocalypse, Daniel Wilson masterfully envisions a frightening near-future world. In Amped, people are implanted with a device that makes them capable of superhuman feats. The powerful technology has profound consequences for society, and soon a set of laws is passed that restricts the abilities—and rights—of "amplified" humans. On the day that the Supreme Court passes the first of these laws, twenty-nine-year-old Owen Gray joins the ranks of a new persecuted underclass known as "amps." Owen is forced to go on the run, desperate to reach an outpost in Oklahoma where, it is rumored, a group of the most enhanced amps may be about to change the world—or destroy it.

Once again, Daniel H. Wilson's background as a scientist serves him well in this technologically savvy thriller that delivers first-rate entertainment, as Wilson takes the "what if" question in entirely unexpected directions. Fans of Robopocalypse are sure to be delighted, and legions of new fans will want to get "amped" this summer.

Amped. Enjoyed the story but wordy in places in great detail with no movement of story.

Great page turner. I'm not big into reviewing books, but this was a very good read. Would you get amped? If you enjoyed this book you should also try Machine Man by Maxx Berry

Great book. It was a very interesting read.

Great...again!. D Wilson is absolutely great again! The plot is a fantastic pendulum between scifi and near-future. Storyline flows creatively without unnecessary twists, characters are strong and human. Daniel, I can't wait for him to write a novel in synbio-robotics space.

Good, but not great. Don't get me wrong, I liked the book a lot... But while I was reading I kept thinking that one or two extra turns would have just really made it great!

Great Read. Solid read, fast paced

Great read. A fun, quick and exciting read!

Interesting subject. But poorly executed. The author became so mired in detail he lost sight of the plot.

Great!. I read the full book in a day. That's not to say it's a short book, but that it had my attention from the start and I couldn't set it down. It is possibly one of the best books I have ever read.

Nice!. I love the fact that there are a lot of things in this book that make sense, scientifically speaking. Definite page turner.

Well done!. Plot is good, he turns out some great phrases that are worth digging out as you go along. Builds characters that are well developed and swing into both degrees of extremism in the storyline.

Good, not great writing. The book presents a question of interest to those of us with legal backgrounds: how should the law treat people who are cranially enhanced, for lack of a better term. I enjoyed thinking about the legal questions raised by the legal events noted in the book, but the book itself seemed...incomplete? I had a vague sense that the Why elements of the story were given short shrift. So, I felt a bit disappointed by the end. The final resolution of some plot lines felt unsatisfying, as if someone decided it was time to wrap things up so *bam* they are wrapped up. In all fairness, I doubt I could write a book this well, but my expectations were higher.

Shallow story. Cybernetic supermen meet the normals "Reggies" in a X-Men like storyline that left me disappointed. The story is shallow, linear and lacks interesting character development. Honestly I feel like I read this story in a comic book about 15 years ago. Spend your time and money on a better story. Sorry Mr. Wilson, but this book is flat monotone without amplification.

Great!. A great book. Once you start you can't stop it only gets better as you read.

Amped. I wasn't as Amped as I thought I would be

A Step Down. I enjoyed this author's first book and was looking forward to his next effort. I hate to say that this book was disappointing. I thought the story was not plausible. Example, there were more than one scene of carnage inflicted on an amp but it seemed that there was never any lasting effect nor an explanation as to how the amp recovered. I thought the story line drifted and did was weak. I hope his next book lives up to the first.

Wish I would have listened to all the other reviews. Robopocalypse was fantastic. I'd give it 5 out of 5 stars. As soon as I finished it, I purchased Amped. The author has a PHD in robotics. Amped has no robots or AI in it. And his creative writing skills really feel amateur. It's something like the Twilight series. Except with really weak powers, terrible romance, and most importantly a main character who isn't interesting enough to carry his own book. Amped is boring, poorly written, and incredibly predictable. I haven't checked out his other books, and after reading this, I have no interest. In a few years I'll re-read Robopocalypse, and my adventure with this author will be finished.

Disappointing. Poorly written, disjoint, cliche... I gave it 281 pages out of 381 but I got so bored, I am giving up... to the bad book collection

Amped. Awesome!

Amped review. It was an action packed book that didn't dwell on soap opera love stories like other books. It's a short read but a very good one. I couldn't stop reading. This is our future!!!! Haha

Another possible future.. I'm beginning to think that Daniel Wilson is able to see into the future. Two books written in such a way that even a simple man would understand the complex technologies that are the focus of the stories. A great read for futurists.

Summer book at best. This is not a very innovative book. The idea is interesting but it does not deliver. Summer book at most. The author writes well but the book lacks something. Oh well. In a few years, Wilson should write great books. This one is for practice.

Amped. Robopocalypse was better.
